Lounge access without card?

They can also see your status by swiping your card, even if its your old, lower status card (we've accessed the lounge with an NB card when the status was SG but card hadnt arrived).

I never knew that. Great tip, thanks.

In a couple of occasions when my status changed e.g. gold to platinum, I have had to call in and get the agent to "remove the number and put it in again" so my correct status is affixed to the itinerary (if it was booked prior to status change). Without doing so, I wasn't able to select platinum-accessible blocked seats and was passed on for op-up (overbooked flight) -- however I think in those cases where I didn't, the BP still printed out plat status correctly. This was few years ago so not sure if it's still the case.

Thanks GalaxyNexus. I've checked the itinerary in Manage My Bookings and it shows as platinum. Hopefully then it will all be all right on the night!

Gee there is a viral YouTube video idea.... First class passengers being asked for cards along with boarding pass.... Love to watch hissy fits!!!
It wasn't enough of a hissy fit to make a video worthwhile. :). However I handed over boarding passes first and after scrutinising them she then asked for my platinum card. I was very much made to feel that she felt I was trying to enter a lounge to which I was not entitled - not exactly welcoming. What if I hadn't been carrying my card - I certainly had no need to, as all the lounges I would access on that trip would be via class of service, so it would have been OK to have been denied entry? I just pointed out to her that there was no necessity to show my card even though I had done so.

It's not shabby at all IMO.
They do a run of cards once a month. Depending on the date you qualified you must have missed the run for that month.

As per the others you will have no trouble accessing the F lounge in SYD

Then why send me an email promising delivery inside 14 days? Creating an expectation and not fulfilling it is, in my opinion, somewhat shabby.

Then prepare yourself for shabby treatment from now on. The content of emails is variable in accuracy. The process I have outlined in my previous post by way of explanation for the delay is what happens in practice.

My apologies for being a little slow to understand what benefit there is in sending out emails with false information. My bad, I suppose. ;)

No need to apologise. There's clearly no benefit in sending out emails with inaccurate information.
I think that your expectations of how quickly your pack will arrive have been falsely raised by QF.
I just don't think it's all that important in the big picture. YMMV.
You will get into the F Lounge minus the card and bag tags.

If you're travelling shortly, it is possible to call them up and have them expedite, e.g. similar to getting a replacement card.

Just tried that, thanks ... could barely understand what she was talking about by way of explanation. I think I will just wait (im)patiently! ;)

To add to the confusion, she said that I would not be able to use my current Gold card for Qantas cash, as the new one has been ordered and the old one deactivated. Gonna have to do some quick on-line money juggling!

If you requalify do they send you the new card with the new expiry date straight away or wait till you get closer to the anniversary date?
I requal'd a few weeks ago and havent gotten my new card either. But my anniversary date isnt for several months.

With my erstwhile silver card the replacement always came a few weeks before anniversary date.

Thanks ferntree
I guess ill wait it out.

But if you qualify for Gold they should send the new card straightaway, at least within 14 Qantas days, which it appears translates into up to about four weeks real time.

Not being able to use the Qantas cash on the current card while waiting for the new one seems a dum idea to me, certainly not customer focused. I can't see any reason to deactivate the existing card immediately, especially as the new one needs activating after you receive it.

Even more awesome when you level-up whilst on an overseas trip...

And it wouldn't be a bad thing if they at least informed you of this so that you could make other financial arrangements rather than being caught short!

I'm not sure what you've been told about Qantas cash is correct. If I'm not mistaken even after you get the new card, you'll still need to reactivate with the new Qantas cash card to transfer it across. I assumed until this is done, the old card keeps working (the Qantas Cash part have a longer e.g. 1-2 months expiry compared to the QFF part).

The front and back of the card are basically completely separate from each other - the expiry date on one has nothing to do with the expiry date on the other. As long as the QC part has been activated it will keep working until it expires, irrespective of your FF status.
