These tales of people being incorrectly denied lounge access are making me nervous.

I reached platinum status three weeks ago yet still have not received cards or bag tags (of course I still have gold ones). I have flight early next week HBA-SYD-WLG and am concerned I might not be allowed into the Qantas First lounge at Sydney without that magical or mystical card. I do have the Qantas app on my mobile which shows my platinum status.

Should I be OK, or will I be posting here again next week in a state of something between sorrow and outrage? :?:

Thanks for any advice ....

Your boarding pass will show your status and it will be all you will need.

Thanks again ... I still think it's a bit shabby that it should take this long ... the email I received three weeks ago said "within 14 days." Doesn't make for a good impression.

Unless of course you get someone who has no idea what they are doing....Flying in First last year, Qantas code share, EK metal, with boarding passes that showed both Mr FM and I with platinum status, I was still asked for my card..... I produced it and I am sure if I hadn't had it, I could have asked for someone else to let us in, who knew what they were doing, but it did totally annoy me.

Yes, this is the kind of situation I am a bit concerned about. Just hope that at least the Sydney Qantas staff should know the rules!

I have never been asked for a card.
Last Tuesday fronted up with EK boarding pass and she looked at QF Gold and about to say sorry then saw FIRST on the boarding pass and welcomed me in.

I have never been asked to produce the Platinum card whenever entering FLounge. Glancing at my boarding pass is deemed sufficient, I believe.

Why? What were they thinking. If you had an F boarding pass, even without platinum status, that's all that was required.
I would have had quiet words with the staff.:)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Been asked for the card exactly once. For the OWE lounge in HEL.

Thanks guys ... I'm feeling more relaxed already ... but still a bit miffed that in three weeks they can't get the kit out to me. It's the bag tags as well ...

It wouldn't be AFF without twelve replies all saying exactly the same thing! Nice to know nothing changes.

:D Strength in numbers ... but seriously, given the random and inconsistent way in which lounge access seems to be administered, it's good to get a subset of replies (data) in order to establish a pattern. ;)

I've been in oneworld lounges in CBR, SYD, HND, HKG, BOS, JFK, DFW, LAX, MIA, DCA, HEL, LHR, DXB, PVG and SIN so far this trip. Have not been asked for a card (although I've shown it at check in each time - the number somehow dropped out of the AY system).
Although that was all on the same status which I've had for 4 years.
5 years ago, I went from sliver to platinum during my trip that year and of course, I didn't have the new cards which then allowed lounge access. It can take some time for new status changes to filter through to other oneworld member systems before the status will show up on their boarding passes (or they can remove and reenter the number and force a recheck).

Since these are all(?) QF flights, their system would have updated the status as soon as the needed flights posted. You are unlikely to need the card and the new status will be on the pass.

I scrabbled through my purse found my card, handed it over and then threw a minor hissy fit afterwards. I agree it is not normal and I shouldn't have had to as I was qualified to enter on class of service. Just pointing out it can happen if someone is new and a bit confused as to what they should be asking for.

This was in Sydney. :). I honestly don't think you have anything to worry about - only time it has happened to me.

It's not shabby at all IMO.
They do a run of cards once a month. Depending on the date you qualified you must have missed the run for that month.

As per the others you will have no trouble accessing the F lounge in SYD

Think about production and distribution time and then Australia's lousy postal service. Additionally It is a package and they take longer to deliver.

Gee there is a viral YouTube video idea.... First class passengers being asked for cards along with boarding pass.... Love to watch hissy fits!!!
