Hi,

I havent placed any messages here before but read the posts quite regularly for tips and am always impressed at the wealth of knowledge and advice in regard to all the frequent flyer benefits etc. and the generosity of those taking the time to answer all the questions.

My son is going on a RTW trip soon and when while on the last week of his trip he should finally get to platinum status. He has managed this by doing many discount economy trips, this RTW and a few trips to Singapore and only missed platinum last year by 110 points.

He loves all the travel and dosent really take advantage of his status, its me that does all the tracking of SC's etc as I would love to see him get the platinum and was just about ready to pay for a ticket myself last year just to get the platinum!! :)

I have managed to work out all the SC he should earn but I cant find any info about airport lounges. He is using CX, AA BA and QF for his flights and about 6 days before he leaves the US to do the LAX/BNE flight he should reach the 1400 SC's. Is it likely that AA and the other airlines would have processed these through Qantas FF by this time? Also some advice regarding lounges would be appreciated. With Gold QC membership are you entitled to visit business class lounges and are there OneWorld lounges or are these just individual airloine lounges called OneWorld lounges? When he gets to Platinum his last US stop will be LAX, can he visit a first class lounge with the platinum status?

Itinerary is Bris/Manila/Seoul/HKG/Dubai/Zurich/Paris/Dallas then a few stops in the US then back to Brisbane.

If the FF number is in the booking properly, it should have credited by then. If he is travelling on LAX-BNE, it likely will depart from Tom Bradley International Terminal and the 1st lounge facilities are pretty much the same as the business ones. If he wants to properly flounge , then rebook on the LAX-SYD flight; this will depart from T4 and will enable him to visit the AA Flagship Lounge

As a current Gold member, he can access OW business lounges; different airlines call their lounges different names

QF tend to be Qantas CLub
AA tend to be Admirals Club
BA tend to be Terraces
et al

I have found (now that I have travelled on all oneworld airlines! YAY!) that providing the frequent flyer number is in the booking, and allocated to the particular airline (checked at check-in), then the points post within a maximum of 3 days. Generally I have found posts from oneworld airlines other than QF post the following day after the flight (depending on the local time in Australia when the flight was completed).

I am assuming that the airlines provide QF with a list of all of the people owed points once per day... It is definatley a lot better than it used to be!

I was suprised how quickly IB posted! Although at times CX and LA do take slightly longer to post. BA and AA do post within 24 hours usually.

This is my experience with OW airlines and posting of points:

QF. Quick posting. Sometimes within an hour of landing, sometimes overnight.

CX post on the Tuesday following the flight normally.

AY. Saturday after the flight.

BA . Variable. Between 1 to 3 days after flight.

EI . Variable. Between 1 to 3 days after flight.

Hello and thanks to everyone who has answered the questions for me.

I just have one last question and that is when requesting flight upgrades, do they use the status of the person who requests the upgrade or the status of the person travelling? As I am only a silver member, I was wondering if I have a better chance of getting an upgrade if I make the upgrade request through my son's Platinum FF account.

The status that matters is the person who requests the upgrade, so it is better for your son makes the request for you rather than you making the request.
 
I'm flying out of Honolulu tomorrow morning on the last leg of a 20 flight DONE4 beginning on 31 March.

All my Qantas flights have been correctly credited.

Cathay Pacific lost interest after I got to Osaka, so I'm missing Osaka-Hong Kong and HKG-CDG.

British Air got my first flight Jersey-Gatwick and haven't done anything else.

Aer Lingus hasn't reported in at all.

Nor has American Airlines.

Luckily I'm not needing any of this for lounge access or other benefits, but still I'm going to have to send in a bunch of boarding passes when I get home to get the credit.

I should have gone Gold two weeks back and in theory Platinum sometime during my final flight back into Canberra.

Pete - similar thing happened for me on a RTW late 2004. QF credits almost as soon as you walk off the plane. BA did not credit for a few weeks even though they swiped my card during checkin. CX took almost a month to credit, and AA took about a week.

I stayed in a hotel in Singapore last week that credits points to QFF. I ensured that my number was in their computer but was wondering how long this would take to post. Does anyone else know how long hotel stays generally take to post to QFF?

I'm also waiting on a LA flight that never posted...

Somehow even though my FF # was in the booking and my card swiped, it never printed on the ticket. Get to Lounge, "Your FF number isn't on the ticket. Do you want it added?". Get new BP with my FF number on it.

Even after all that it never posted!

I think that's only the 2nd flight of mine that hasn't posted at all or taken a long time to post.

I see other people are having difficulties with the RTW fare points to be credited and other trips. Since I posted my initial question above, my son is half way through his RTW trip and as mentioned above Cathay Pacific lost interst after the first flight, still nothing showing from over a week ago and apparently for one sector (reason unknown after a 9 hr delayed flight) his QF FF # wasnt in the booking so when he gets back will need to lodge the boarding passes and claim, which ultimately means he will miss getting platinum status during this trip.

Keep ahead of the game and email Qantas as soon as the flights don't or are slow to post. I have found that they actually respond very quickly if you do this. Also point out (politely) in the emails that platinum status is due during the trip and see what happens. Last year I had several AA legs where the BP didn't show my FF no yet they posted within 2 days.

Keep trying and you'll sometimes be surprised at the results.

I got the credits (and a loyalty bonus that became due) from my Honolulu flight just minutes ago. Hopped off the plane, did the transfer to Domestic, found a computer in the QC and there they are!

Marriott is supposed to give me airmiles, but nothing from my stay in Toronto a week back. Not yet.
 
I'm in the middle of my done4, and agree that qantas post almost immediately, Ba have taken 1 to 2 days. AA however have taken 4 days and only just posted for their flights.
 
Update on my missing points. Marriott in Toronto came through after two weeks. I sent an email to Qantas listing my missing flights and a lovely young lady rang just now and said that they found all but four AA flights.

I've kept the stubs, so I'll take a pic and send them as an email attachment, as she suggested.

If it wasn't obvious before, it certainly is obvious now!

But now I know that QF will assist if anything goes wrong with delayed/cancelled AY flights I will continue to do AY SC runs as long as their airfares remain cheap.

You just have to find a trusty BKK Travel Agent to get you those elusive I fares now!! BTW, if you find one... let me know :D

Not sure if these I class fares ever existed Mal! As I posted on another thread the response from the BKK Travel Agent was that this was a mistake on their website and were really O class fares not I class.

Anyway there are still cheap D class fares available. :)
