Husband and I are both velocity gold travelling with two young children (1 & 4) bne-lax-Bos soon on virgin Australia and virgin America (delta was not an option when we booked).
It's my understanding VX is now same terminal as air Alaska, but we will not have access to air Alaska lounge (is this correct?) We can buy passes @$45 each x3 is $$$$ - we have a 5 hr layover so want to be in a lounge for comfort.
Are we just going to have to pay for access??

OR
Would it be possible to use the tunnel in lax to go from terminal 6 to terminal 5 and use the delta club (and back to terminal 6 for virgin America flight?) Would the Delta lounge be accessible as virgin aug international passengers?

Virgin Australia spent the time creating this forum, opps I mean the page on their website which answers your question ... https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/experience/at-the-airport/international-lounge-access/

You will need to pay for access.

Hi AmeriAus, we are in a similar position, travelling with our kids and not quite sure where we are welcome at LAX. Wish I could answer your question but I know that I'd probably cough up the $$$ for 5 hours of comfort for all of you.

Safe travels.

USD $130 for 5 hours? I think you could Uber somewhere and have a better time, nearby beachside cafe perhaps. Appreciate the little ones may not feel the same way.

Thanks for the suggestion, Not exactly safe to travel by car w/out car seats and as it'll be 11pm (Australia time) for us on arrival in lax my kids will be exhausted (read: miserable and will just want to sit quietly somewhere).

You can access the Alaska Airlines lounge in terminal 6 if flying VX first class, otherwise payment is the only option. It is a fairly small and average lounge. Bar staff do not accept tips in this lounge.

You might consider hopping on the Hilton shuttle bus from LAX (free), which takes you to the very close by Hilton on Century Blvd. They have day rates for around $80, where you can shower and relax. Additionally, there is a 24 hour cafe inside the Hilton with decent food, beer and wine. You could go there on the shuttle without booking a day room at the Hilton. It always seems to have plenty of seats and to me is as good as most LAX lounges, except you don't get free food and drink. But for $130 USD you could throw a pretty big party there. It is also walking distance to quite a few restaurants which might help you pass the time.

Thanks. Would this need to be pre booked or could we just turn up (just thinking in case our flight is late arriving). Cheers

You can just arrive. If they are full or you just like the cafe enough to stay there then you aren't out anything.

Hotels, pairs of hotels or groups of hotels run continuous loop shuttle busses from the LAX terminals to their hotels and back again. No need to book or show that you are actually booked at the hotel. They run from the 'second' kerb out from the terminals (you'll know what I mean when you see it - all pretty well marked).

Its just a matter of choosing which hotel is close-ish (I think the Hilton Century Blvd is one of the closest and therefore first to be dropped off - some can be 15+ mins) and which services are OK for you.

Same deal on the return - just go outside the hotel and wait for the return shuttle.

Sometimes the shuttles get 'bunched' either way, so the wait is longer, so factor that in.

Delta has moved to T2-3. Unfortunately no access flying VX. The Skyclub is not an arrival lounge unfortunately. You could try, but the rules don't allow it.

I guess it's all a matter of perspective. For me, 5 hours of comfort at the airport for 4 people is actually not so cost prohibitive if I factor convenience over effort. We've travelled enough with our four children to know that a dedicated children's area, decent bathrooms and the buffet style offerings of a Lounge offer more entertainment, distraction and peace than I could justify anywhere else.

I know there's a sub culture of people who think airline Lounges and families shouldn't mix, but we've put a lot of effort in to raising our kids to be respectful and discreet in public places. Our reward is sitting in a Lounge and being hugely proud of how well behaved they are among other frequent flyers.

The Travelodge LAX (the one on Century Blvd.) is great for a day room. It is only US$90ish depending on the time of year and it has a nice pool and, importantly, the rooms are clean. I wouldn't spend the night personally but it is a better value day room than the the Hilton.

You do have a pretty shortish layover, but that's what I would do. Lounges are too crowded.

Hilton LAX is my go to.. sometimes Uber to Manhattan beach from there and then free shuttle back to LAX

Yes it is a matter of perspective. You are describing a nice international transit lounge in a nice international airport. Unfortunately the Alaskan lounge at LAX is not that place...

In this particular case, I believe there are better options than spending $130 to sit in a crowded small outdated lounge and eat cubed cheese and pretzels. There is no shower in this lounge. You have to go through security again at LAX regardless, so you aren't saving that hassle by staying at the airport. I am not a parent, but a short shuttle ride to rid myself of LAX for 5 hours, have some personal space, a shower, and actually save money certainly seems like a viable option.

I'm gonna have to stand corrected there CPMaverick. I was referring to Delta or *A Lounge at LAX. Didn't read the fine print sorry...
