I have a three-hour stopover in Hong Kong next month, transferring between two J-class Cathay flights. I hold a platinum Qantas FF card. Can anybody tell me (i) which lounges I have access to; (ii) which is the most comfortable? Thanks!

You have access to QF and CX F lounges. CX F lounges are nicest - choice of The Wing and The Pier. Both are good, I'd take whatever is closest to your gate.

As Kiwi Flyer pointed out, the wing and the Pier F lounges are the best you will find, I have a personal preference for the Wing, no matter which gate I leave from, as I like the setting a little more, the water feature is a nice touch....There is a noodle bar, games room with electronic games, library, The Haven cafe, day break rooms and free wireless internet!!

Don't forget to use the Cabanas to freshen up!!

You can also check out the QF lounge, but I wouldn't bother....

The Wing main entrance is opposite gates 2 and 3. There is an entrance direct to the F section from the mezzanine level. The Pier is near gate 62 and you go down an escalator to get there. Both are very good lounges.

Thank you all for replying. I have been to the QF F lounge a couple of times but it does feel rather cramped.

Mmm...

I concur with the other guys, The Wing/Pier at HKG seem to be among the top 5 airline lounges in the world (and I haven't experienced the other 3). (apparently there's a good F lounge in Frankfurt).

If you haven't been to either I would go to the Wing first and refresh in one of the "Cabana's". Check you departure flight and gate before doing so; if it's near the Wing (Gates 1-10) enjoy it. If Your gate is up in the 50'-60's, head out using the "People Mover" about 75 minutes before the flight and check the Pier out.

Whatever, you can't go wrong. ...

Actually there are 3 good F lounges in FRA, all of which I'd rate ahead of The Wing and The Pier. 2 of the FRA LH F lounges are in the main terminal, and the 3rd is the biggest and best in a separate terminal by itself.

I will be travelling on QF30 London-Melbourne in the next month or so. There is a 1.5HR stop over in HK. Does anyone know which gate blocks (in HK) this flight is likely to use? After reading this thread I am hoping to check out the CX F lounge, that is, if there is time & it's nearby.

There are 2 CX F lounges, The Wing and The Pier. The Wing is at the base of the terminal and The Pier is out on the pier (!). So whatever gate you get won't be too far from one of these lounges.

Qantas flights generally use gates 15-19 on the North Concourse. This generally delivers arriving transit passengers to Transfer Area E1. Once through the transfer area and up to the departures area, you are closest to The Wing lounge whoch has its main entrance oposite gate 2. You are also not far from the Qantas lounge, but must go up the escalator to level 7 to enter the Qantas lounge which overlooks gate 16-17 area.

Note that to get from the Qantas lounge back to the North Concourse gates (15-19) you must return to the escalator down from level 7 to level 6 which is pretty much in the middle of the North/South concourses. So the walk from The Wing and from the Qantas Club lounges is similar in time and distance.

Have a look here for explanation of the gate locations etc at HKIA.

Further to that, is it correct that due to myself being PS and QC Life, the only lounge I will have access to will be the QP when I fly PER/HKG/PER?

That depends on the class of travel. For economy then yes, just the Qantas Club lounge. However, if flying in business class, then the CX lounges do provide access based on class of travel for all OneWorld flights. They are not required to do so as it is not a defined OneWorld benefit, but the CX Lounges in HKG will happily provide access to anyone travelling in business or first class on a OneWorld operated and marketed flight. Very good of them indeed.
