My partner and I are travelling to the UK to visit his elderly uncle in June. We booked using Qantas frequent flyer points but the flights are on Emirates flights, and we are stopping in Tokyo for a night on the way there and Dubai for two nights on the way home. My partner is a Qantas Club member and we thought we'd be able to use the Qantas or Emirates lounges on our travels, however after we'd booked the flights, the agent said because our flights are not Qantas code share flights, we are not able to use any lounges.

Have we been given the correct information? It seems strange that we're booked through Qantas, using Qantas points, are a member of the Qantas Club, had no choice in the carrier, but can't access any lounges.

Presumably the Tokyo flight is on JAL or BA. The lack of lounge access for QP members doesn't just apply to EK but OW partners as well, which is kind of consistent at least. The irritating thing about EK Reward tickets is that there is a QF flight number that is unbookable.

Out of interest did QP members used to have access to Australian (or overseas) Int J lounges when flying non-QF OW? I seem to remember being able to with BA but that was when they were codesharing

The Tokyo flight is with Emirates. I wondered why we weren't booked on Qantas flights (or code-shared flights) instead of Emirates when we booked using our points. I don't know if there just aren't QF flights going there, or there is another reason. Anyway, thanks for your help everyone, at least I know we haven't been given the wrong information (disappointing as it is). Wondering now if we can buy a pass or something.
