Fabulous pics - Venice is on the bucket list so I am just loving them! You said that there will be several cruise ships in this weekend. Is this affecting the crowds yet?

Dame, there are 15,000 pax for Saturday plus the HAL ship overnighted and some of the couples on the shared taxi are cruising out on that today.

Venice is busy. Very busy but it copes. It is set up for tourists. Restaurants everywhere. You must come. You walk down alleys and at every turn there's a new discovery be it a new bridge, plaza, or group of shops. I think it would be cold and miserable in winter though. Make it a summer trip.

It means the Grand Canal has broken its bank.

The weird thing is that the tourists just keep eating even though their feet are in water and it's still rising!

The combination of full moon/high tide on Saturday along with the recent storms means that the canal isn't coping with the tidal surge.

This is pretty rare at this time of the year. The surge is predicted to be .9 metre. When it gets to 1.2 (maybe once every four years?) then sirens sound in St Marks Square for people to sand bag.

We will check again tonight to see what happens but the weather is calmer now.

But it isn't just overflow from the canal.

The city also has holes in the pavers for tidal water to surge through.

Like this:

So even away from the canal the water was bubbling up so you see puddles like this growing:

This was not a puddle from rain.

These are taken behind Rialto Bridge away from the restaurants earlier:

Sorry it's blurred but can't remove it in tapatalk. That's a seat btw.

Enjoying the TR.

Do they still put out the small tables that double up as walking boards? Our first visit to Venice we arrived late and saw all these tiny tables throughout St. Mark's Sq - in the morning I realised what they were for

I took these photo in 1993...

Water surged through the pavers at St marks at high tide the other day. Nice to get reflections of the Basilica in the water. :)

Oh wow, love the photos!
Such beautiful scenes. We were there in late September, a couple of years ago, no tidal surge then.

Break out the water wings! It must be quite unusual as I have read that the acqua alta is really a winter occurrence. Watch out for all those people on Saturday and don't hit any of them

Loving Venice. We got lost today. Not really. Just head for water.

We took the vaporetto for a grand canal cruise. Its the public launch so very crowded.

So many photos. Venice is a visual paradise. Hope you folks don't mind a photo show. Mr P has taken some amazing panorama shots which won't work on a forum unfortunately.

As if I would mind a photo show.:D
Enjoying the TR.
Agree with you re Dubai.Been once.Never again.
All the best for the cruise.

Hey drron
Glad you like a photo show because we've just returned from Burrano which is visual heaven.

Photos once I've caught my breath!

So, today was the day to visit Murano and Burano by water transport.

Inside the floating station waiting to board Venice's public transport system. They rock. A lot.

ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1405090157.333503.jpg

A five minute ride over to Murano which uses the same route out as we came in on Wednesday from the airport. Water taxi traffic jam!

ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1405090241.969896.jpg

Murano is known for glass blowing and glass objects. Sadly much of the glass comes from China. People selling authentic goods provide a certificate of authenticity.

ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1405090331.262722.jpg

Photos are forbidden on most of the displays but some are allowed.

These were exquisite (ly expensive)miniature bowls of fruit.

ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1405090446.003022.jpg

The town is quite pretty. Surprisingly it has a canal. And gondolas. I know where the saying comes from.

Still on Murano and we need a morning snack. Almond Magnum and coke with the view looking toward Venice.

ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1405090731.450131.jpg

This is blown Murano glass. It's hard to get a photo without photo bombers.

I purchased an exquisite necklace. The lady serving me said her husband had made it. As she was wrapping it she started tearing up and said as she sold each piece it was like parting with a member of her family. She also provided the authenticity certificate.

Then off on a packed vaporetto to Burano which is 30 minutes away. The boat was filled with a teenage school group of around 80 kids. With backpacks. Teenagers, backpacks and crowds do not mix well. Especially as the leaders were trying to count them as they departed. Sigh.

Burano is spectacular. Mr P took so many photos.

The main canal, yes, another one is lined with houses all of which must be painted a different colour. On a fine summers day it was just gorgeous.

Pizza with a view. We've had three pizzas in three days. Ooops.

As I hadn't consumed rose with lunch I can confirm there's another leaning tower in Italy.

Molly Meldrum appeared for a brief visit.

On our trip back we scored a couple of seats and started chatting with the guys opposite. Of course, of all the people we could chat to, it appears we are on the same cruise tomorrow. They are Canadians. It's a small world.

Beeautiful photos Pushka, thank you.
Brings back some very special memories.

Pizza and a Moretti beer, also great memories.

Loving your trip report.
