Got a letter this week thanking me for my continuing patronage from QFF with new WP card for new membership year. Problem was i hadn't made it and they noted that, just showed their good grace by extending anyway for one year. I have heard this happen to others and was thankful that i would get an extension too. Have subsequently made it within membership year (or will next week ) but am now worried that i've used up my one free pass. What to do. Keep multiple copies of said letter and statements to show in future if they're not forthcoming with extension? or send a retrun note with the card thanking them for extension, but as i (by that stage) will have already reached benchmark, don't need it. I can't keep WP forever and will want that extension at some point. Would just rather have it on my terms.

I've not been in that position, but have read here where members in similar positions have retained the 'freebie'. May be worth calling (or emailing if you want the chance of something in writing) QF to see what their official line is. I suspect it will not be an issue for you, but cannot categorically say so. Definitely hang onto any supporting paperwork.

It has been said that achieving the extension in your own right gives the freebie back, for use in the future, but don’t have anything written down to prove that sorry.

How certain is the freebie?

i'm relying/hoping/praying on it for my honeymoon trip...

worst case senario they'll comp me SG right if I only make it to PS in my new role?

QFF are known to have a "soft landing" approach; fail to requalify(/be comped) WP, then you'll be granted SG status for a year - and PS the year after that if you don't re-qualify SG (or WP).

From my experience....

I made SG in 2007 (renewal date August), and have recieved the 'comp' letter every July since 07... and have made SG in mid August every year (my travel is usually at the same times every year).

So I guess the freebie is in your pocket again!

It may or may not carry forward, it is not an entitlement. There is a hidden way of determing if you are eligible, I'm not sure if it is on averaging over 2-3 years (don't think so), QF spend or SCs earned in the year you get comped.

I was sent a similar note - allowing me to keep WP at the end of 2009 despite not having enough SCs at the time it was offered, but made it in my own right anyway by my anniversary date.

But at the end of 2010 all I got was a gold card in the mail, no freebie, and not even the "what are your travel plans?" email that some have claimed to get. So enjoy it if you can, but don't expect it.

Thanks for your insight dajop. Exactly what I was afraid of. Think I might send 2012 card back (now that I've retained WP with enough SC) with a polite thanks but I don't need it and hope for the best should I fall a little short some time in the future.

Thanks to all AFF posters. This is my first thread as a newbie, so appreciate the comments.

As way of background, first year of WP about five years ago was I think 76 rtn syd-Mel or syd-adl red E's. Now doing less rtn's but more Y and A few I'ntl J. So perhaps there looking at the higher value Y & J as a factor.

I've been SG for many years but sone years back, it looked like I was not going to make the threshold and QF wrote that they were comp'ing me. But I did make it by the anniversary. In this current year I fell short and have been comp'd. Im not sure if I'll be making the mark again, hence I have selected the Marco Polo offer thru Amex.

When l qualified WP, 'year' before last, close to 2000sc's reached.
Only made ~400 status credits (all on discount economy) last 'year' which ended, end of November 2011. Change of career/jobs.

Average of about ~1200sc's a year over the last 2 years.

Dropped to Gold. No letter asking why either.

Oh well, life will go on...;)
