Looming Jet Fuel Shortages?

Personally I'd rather they just tell the truth and tell everyone to save fuel rather than pretend everything is ok just to avoid panic.
🤷‍♂️

We complain about the nanny state, but then people can’t work out for themselves to save fuel?

Dunno how many times the government has said ‘no issue with fuel supply’… but irresponsible media has continued to feed this ‘panic we had to have’.

It isn't being a nanny state to tell people the truth. Maybe previously there was no issue with general supply, however the distribution of resources equally and to rural areas has been and still is, a major issue.

Your spot on.... the "distribution" will be the politics

The fact of life ATM is there is no "shortage of fuel" as such as yet. The war has not impacted our supplies as yet. Shortages are being created by buyer behaviour.

We have a situation where people driven by the media have been panic buying and demand is up by more than 58% in some areas. The just-in-time scheduling the industry is geared to wasn't able to respond in a very short space of time. This is being remediated and it will still take some time to fully adjust.

Additional road fuel tankers don't mysteriously appear out of thin air, schedules have to be adjusted and longer hours worked, and genuine "need" needs to be prioritised

Yes it is true the companies selfishly prioritised their own outlets for replenishing but that is now seemingly being addressed by relevant governments.

We never had a genuine shortage of toilet paper, the scenario has been repeated by the general public and the media.

People always complain they don’t like government telling them what to do. But - when it suits them - are waiting for the government to tell them to save fuel?

The shortage is artificial because people are hoarding (at the moment).

people are hoarding

This endlessly repeated spin is boring and factually vacuous yet it continues ad nauseum

HOW are folks hoarding , has Supercheap flown in a couple of air freighter loads of 20l drums for folks to use ?

Two of my five 20l Diesel drums are empty and I fear for my life about refilling them with the possibility of vigilantes targeting hoarders or perhaps my secret hoard will be leaked and a swat team will descend from the heavens to punish me.
The farm may just survive a month on the remaining three but I will have to hire a bodyguard next week to fill up the 20l
unleaded drum, either that or sacrifice the lawns for the common good

Well bunnings reported they sold out of jerry cans and could not keep up with supply. Probably not being used to store water.

Not buyer behaviour at all at least in SA regions. It has been acknowledged that distributors immediately stopped provisioning regional service stations in rural SA at the very same time said companies jacked up the price uniformly. Please STOP blaming the farmers for a situation that was completely out of their control. It has not been sorted yet in SA and just last night I heard from a farmer desperate to get their hands on diesel so they could start harvesting their crop. It would not wait a week. We had a state election just last week meaning that they were in caretaker mode until declared. Only today has a state emergency meeting been held.

The toilet paper corollary is completely irrelevant here.

The truth seems to be difficult for some to understand. Yes there are hoarders but this is much bigger than people and their Jerry cans.

This thread is making me angry because one excuse is being used to explain a complex situation and it's pointless. People here are too city centric just like the government. And have no idea of the difficulties farmers are facing. But come months time when food is in short supply they will be the ones complaining. Done here.

We are concerned about mum-in-law filling jerry cans for the mowers, considering she lives alone and not super near to us (so we can't go fill them for her). Grass doesn't mow itself, fortunately we've converted most of her smaller garden tools to battery over the last few years which does at least reduce the amount of fuel she needs to hold.

She has also relocated them from the garage to the shed so they're not visible if anyone is delivering things to the house - more a theft concern than anything else.

Nowhere in any of my posts at anytime have I blamed farmers.

BTW we are both OT as this thread is about aviation fuel.

You did not distinguish farmers, your posts reflect that there's no shortage, but it's a behavioural issue with People, of which farmers are obviously included. Farmers can't hoard. They can't even get their hands on fuel as it was never delivered. And that delivery failure happened before any hoarding started.
