Hilton EL lounge is mediocre but tbh I have never heard of a good EL lounge in Adelaide once the Hyatt rebranded.

Tks to all who contributed - we had a great ouple days in ADL. Ages since I have been there and you just forget how civilised the whole city is - such a slow pace - driving such a breeze - no traffic - no aggressive drivers other than me - so easy.

Hilton was fabulous for what we wanted - Dia got us upgrade to Studio Suite - just perfect. Bfast downstairs pretty good - as others noted EL very ordinary but we didn’t really use it either - happy hour in lobby bar 4 to 6pm some serious discs on Champs - Veuve Rose down from $36/glass to $29 - serious bargain ;)

Gauchos Thu not was pretty good but with no BYO they don’t miss on wine prices - thank god I live in MEL home of OT - price wise it slaughters Gauchos for similar quality product.

La Trattoria Fri nt was a disaster - prebooked and called 6pm to confirm booking - yes Sit all good we have a fabulous table for you - arrived to be seated on worst table at far back inside - refused that and headed out onto footpath. Handed menus and wine list and after 10 min wait and repeated waves finally got waiter to take drinks order then food order after drinks arrived - the Ette an entree Lasagne and Sicilian salad and me main Tortellini Amatriciana.

10 mins later waiter returns with Ettes order and says yours won’t be long Sir - 10 mins later mine arrived - Sorry Sir we made a mistake and gave you Fettuccine Amatriciana - if you like we will cook you another one but it will take 10 mins - FFS - how hard can it be. Just ate some of it and go up to pay to leave - How was everything? Well it was like this ………………………… - so sorry to hear that - but you still pay full price - whatever - 2 visits to La Trattoria in one night - our first and our last!!!

Maybe just unlucky - place was packed - but whilst we sat there waiting for our food we had 3 waiters come to our table trying to deliver food we did not order - they headed back inside each time to try to find which table they should be delivering to - total lack of professionalism IMHO

But all in all we had a great couple of days - again thanks to all for your contributions.

Interesting a lot of people rave about La Trat but I"m happy to give it a miss

It was our go to place when we were at Uni and most of you would know that was a lifetime ago. Went there a few years ago after many years of absence for a large birthday party. Which was excellent. So I think they are very good with their regulars but not so with their new clientele.

Interesting observations - I was remiss in leaving out one significant detail. Whilst we were sitting and dining there was a table of 5 young Chinese imm next to us and 5 other diners of Italian descent on table behind us - we knew of their Italian heritage as is was openly discussed with wait staff one of whom had a very strong Italian accent and was very familiar with those on that table.

The Chinese kids shared pizza and pasta and cokes - were really enjoying themselves and were totally unnoticeable - they left and a couple did not push their chairs back under table. Waiter with strong Italian accent in the process of delivering an order the the table behind us sorta kinda bumped into / tripped over one of the chairs - then in a very audible voice and directed straight at those on the table blurted out 'coughking Asians'!

I kid you not - that alone is more than enough for me to give them life and I will actively spread the word near and far.

Now here is an ADL reco I am happy to share with anybody - on my rounds last Friday in that pizzy ADL drizzle I stopped at a red light right outside this store:

I haven’t been for a couple years now, last time was shocking service, rushed, waitress was rude and food was ok.

Where is this? These are fabulous!

Any of you Crow Eaters have any contacts in furniture removal industry? Quote to get 2 of above chairs to MEL is $300 total - chair cost $500 total - tad on the high side me thinks - need to find an alternative if possible.

La Trattoria in the CBD is good for Italian
Gauchos for steak.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed in "La Trat' " on my last visit , But Gaucho's is still good (if not a little dear).

I'm possibly driving to Melbourne in March and could probably fit them in the back of the car. Currently in Antarctica but if you message me late Feb I will know what I'm doing then

Adelaide visit coming up - any intel on Glenelg BBQ Inn Steakhouse please?

Gauchos still about same standard as ever?

Also any recos for Italian? Last visit we went to La Trattoria and it failed to impress - said we would never return but a mate visited recently and has been raving about it?

How do Parlamento and Chianti compare? Any others I am missing?

TIA 👍

La Tratt has been hit or miss for about 2 years IMO. Have had some fantastic meals there one night and then a couple of nights later it’s been average. Seems to be no middle ground of late.
Parlamento and Chianti are great and we love Osteria Oggi.

Gauchos is good and reliable still, La Boca was a favourite but changed their menu and chef recently and it’s pretty ordinary now.

I do like the food at the Glenelg BBQ Inn, it does feel like more of a pub type eatery than a restaurant but the food has always been good
