So, not exactly a conventional trip report - this plane never left the ground, and never will again!

Nevertheless, I thought I might share some photos from Longreach, Queensland, of the Qantas Founder's Outback Museum.

I am passing through on the way back from a job in Northwest Queensland, with my partner, and arranged to be passing through Longreach. At 11 o'clock we arrived at LRE, and arranged to visit the museum and tour the retired 747-200 which has been permanently parked on the LRE airfield.

The view from the carpark.

For a rural museum, it was very pricey - $97 for the tour! And, insult to injury, no QFF points earned on the admission tickets ;) (note- this didn't actually concern me, but it wouldn't be a true AFF report if I didn't record all the potential points earning opportunities!)

A very early Qantas ticket!

A photo showing both:
1. The old Dreamtime seats in Zone A of a 747 (business class in a domestic config)
2. Access to the computers below the deck

The coughpit (obviously!)

Forward view whilst standing on the wing. Standing out on the wing was an amazing experience - they clipped us onto a wire, but we were standing without guard rails and walked 3/4 of the way to the end of the wing. Great fun!

All in all, a very enjoyable excursion that I recommend if you are passing through this part of Queensland.

I have some more photos if there are any requests for specific parts of the plane.

Was the 90some dollars for the two of you? Either way a bit pricey, guess they realize most will go there no matter cost!

Great pics thanks for posting up!

Nope

$97 each - see QFOM - opening times and entry prices - under "Museum and 747 Secrets with Wing Walk Package"

You can get into the plane for $19.00, but that doesn't include the museum or the coughpit, cargo hold, or wing. I figured if I'd come this far, I might as well do it properly!

Thanks for the feedback :D
