Long time gawker, now new member looking for help

Hi all, love the site and now fully signed up. Have been looking through the other threads and hoping someone can help. I am ( and have been for the last 6 years ) a QFF Gold flyer, and almost LT Silver. Each year I have come within 200 ( sometimes within 50 ) status credits of qualifying for Platinum. Each time I have sent an enquiry to FF asking to be given complimentary upgrading. I thought I was a chance last year, as I had evidence that I had bookings delayed or cancelled during strike action, and ash clouds, that would have qualified me easily, however I got no love.

Has anyone ever been given an upgrade without fully qualifying, and if so how ? I am loyal to QF, however must admit that with all my colleagues spruiking Virgin now it has been hard to resist given this lack of consideration.

I strongly suspect that it'll always be no dice re upgrade without first getting the SC's up.

When you see ppl being comped it's usually because they have been a certain status for several years first, and I believe it's a one time only thing.
The best you can hope for is a double SC promo.

From QF's point of view, you are a loyal SG, and that certainly entitles you to some respect, but it does not mean that you should be bumped up to WP, despite how long you've been a SG for. (LTS / LTG is designed for ppl who are long term loyal but who don't ever achieve status, sadly there is no LTP)

The trick may be if you get close again, go on a status run. Look for things like JASA's which can be had for peanuts (even a Y flexi fare SYD-ADL vv would net you 60SC's) which you could use to push you over the line.

There was a report recently of a comp when there was very little left to get across the line, but its very rare, doing a JASA is a good way of solving the problem, and when you can get 140 SC for 24000 QFF points spent, not to expensive, in fact with the recent Epiqure promo they were on the offer for $600 of wine purchases.

To be clear with this, the comping mentioned here is generally in relation to a status the member has already attained and provides for an additional year at that level.

Definitely do the JASA thing. I was a silver/gold for 14 years and finally achieved WP this year mainly due to an AONE4. I will easily hold onto it for the next few years by adding some JASA mini breaks around Australia to my planned holidays. Now if only I could get a DSC offer......
