Am looking at a flight HKG-SYD-ADL, with a 0735 arrival in Sydney and a connecting flight at 1655. Would I be able to drop off the bags straight away after picking them up and have some lunch in Marrickville?

If same ticket they’ll take it at the international connections. On QF you’ll be able to ask to move forward for free without issue if the same ticket.

@henrus if it's the single ticket, can't you check it through the whole way from the start of your journey and not need to do anything with it 'til the very end? Or is that not always true?

Or is that not always true?
Even if it’s a single ticket, in countries like Australia, New Zealand and the US you’ll need to collect your luggage after an international fight and recheck it before a domestic flight so that you can physically take it through customs.

For HKG-SYD-ADL even if it’s a single ticket you must collect it in Sydney before rechecking it for the flight to Adelaide.
