Lonely Planet seems to be making different LP Guides free every few days. At the moment you can download Prague and Capetown for Free. Over the past week I've picked up Hong Kong, San Francisco, Rome, Berlin and Melbourne, all freebies. They are usually $7.99.

I managed to download 14 last year for free in a special, so it’s a shame this hasn’t been posted sooner :p

Here’s a link to find out quickly what’s free in the Lonely Planet range!

Very nice! Pity I've still got my 4+yr old phone :)

Ahh but the bad news - I've put an order in for a HTC desire HD :D Think the better-ness of the phone will outweigh not having a couple of apps (and Mr ksheep being an avid android app writer might mean we can figure out how to get it done anyway :) )

Perhaps I can get a nokia phone for free to use the free Ovi guides.
 I don't know, perhaps consult your local "dealer", and see if there are any plans that come with phones with no up front charge?

OR, if you're an iCrap "junky", download the app for each city, on each day that it is free. Rather coughbersome I think. ;)

ROFL. Pay for Lonely Planet apps, thats so iCrap. :p

Check out Nokia Lonely Planet - Nokia - Ovi Maps. All guides free, all the time! e.g. Ovi Store

I haven’t paid for one… but the fact they’re free on Nokia’s store wouldn’t make me want to give up the great phone I have now. :p

In my position, moving to a Nokia would be a downgrade, a big one ;)

I prefer things that work nicely, and connect with everything I have, not things that are playing catch-up, and don’t work with everything I already have :p

Yeah, the 12 seconds or so a day have been absolute killers. :D

I said free. Probably need to reassess if you think phones on plans with no upfront charge are free.

Or perhaps your a marketing spin junky

And totally useless when travelling, unless you're happy to pay $19/mb for roaming data charges. I'll stick to my iPhone with Apps that are a few bucks, and don't rack up data charges to use when away :P

Yeah cause no carrier does the iPhone (spelling corrected for you :P) on free-up front. Vodafone, 3 and Optus don't do they? Oh, they do :)

Even Telstra does.

Nokia lost the plot long ago when they ditched Series 40 and went to Symbian. Symbian was a great idea, shockingly executed. This is why Android has picked up so much market share. They saw a gap that Apple was rapidly making inroads into, and launched a viable alternative to it. Symbian is long over. I used to only ever use Nokia handsets. I ditched them when Ericsson merged with Sony (Sony Ericsson) and started making usable Symbian interfaces for their handsets, but i've been an iPhone user ever since the original 2G one and never looked back. Android is good, but it's still lacking a lot of polish for me (and yes, I know there are more handsets in the world running Android, but that's due to the fact multiple manufacturers now use it; Apple has even now started beating RIM).

We're going way O/T here though!

Download them for when you do upgrade, then you’ll have everything you need right from the start! :)
