Hi will be in London from 14th May till 18th May ...I am originally from London and normally say with family in Reading but want to be a tourist for a few days, finding it hard to find decent accommodation at $250 max a night and wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Have thought about staying out at Heathrow where the value is better but then would have to factor in the train travel each day, which is not so bad as time is our own. Any suggestions please.

I guess it depends on what your expectations are. Personally when I'm in London I always stay at a Premier Inn, for what you pay the rooms and bed are very comfortable indeed - there are quite a few ranked highly on Tripadvisor FWIW.

They have a few hotels located at/near Heathrow if you decide to stay there (sometimes as low as 39 pounds!). Otherwise they have plenty through the tourist areas of London, either near the Picadilly line where you could get a tube to/from Heathrow or within a few tube stops of Paddington for the Heathrow Express or Heathrow Connect.

Get paid up to 25% in real cash from your everyday purchases from leading companies such as Virgin Australia, Booking.com, Woolworths, Coles, Apple, Microsoft and much more. Free to join and no catches!

Thanks I have been looking at the Premier Inn, they do look like good value

For our past couple of trips to the UK, we've stayed at the Hilton in Holland Park whilst in London. A double room for those dates is £125 ( ~ $242) per night, if you're prepared to lock those dates in and pay in advance. That doesn't include breakfast though, which would blow the budget.

We found the location to be quite convenient; it's just a short walk to Shepherd's Bush underground and overground stations, and there's a large Westfield and numerous places to eat nearby as well.

For our next trip (in a few weeks) we have no real need to stay in London, and our wallets will be happier for it. :D

Thumbs up for Premier also. We've stayed at a Premier Inn elsewhere in the UK on a previous trip, and will be staying at a couple of them this time around too.

Thanks Colin. I looked at that property too and at $240 ish is ok. Can always get breakfast somewhere. Know Shepherds Bush well I am Hilton Gold wonder does that help with anything ?

I stayed at the Z Hotel Soho in 2012. Rooms are extremely small. The room I had was lacking a window too.

In 2013 I enjoyed my stay at the Novotel Blackfriars in Southwark. It's quite new and the rooms are a good size for London. It's quite near Southwark station so easy to get around town.

Yep, you can book 'inside rooms' which dont have a window and for obvious reasons cheaper, some people not a concern, other people a deal breaker

A friend has stayed at the novotel and said it was quiet good but for the time im looking at its over the $300 mark

Also try Airbnb if you are open to that, can get whole studio/pvt apartments for under the 250 a night

Last time I got a 'cheap' (-ish) but decent room in London was a couple of years ago, at the Holiday inn Express at Limehouse. Can't remember the cost, sorry. But it was a good, clean, basic hotel and I'd go back.
