Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone has any insights into how the retiming of QF9/10 has (or has not) affected loads?

I don't know how the LHR-DXB leg will be affected, but I expect the DXB-MEL segment to be quite full considering that a 1:35 AM departure is now a perfect connection for many EK flights arriving late evening from European cities. I have visitors coming from ARN in September and their travel agent in Stockholm (who couldn't care less about QF...) booked them on EK ARN-DXB and then QF10 to MEL.

In a previous post I suggested that all other things being equal (economic conditions, fares charged, competitors' price settting behaviour and so on), the changes must increase patronage because the departure times of QF2 and QF10 are now significantly separated.

The additional connections at DXB must indeed be another factor.

Of course one flaw in my suggestion is that QF and EK now link up so one also has to consider what times the EK flights depart LHR or DXB, but I was assuming that there was a partly undersupplied market looking for a QF metal flight and dissatisfied with either a very early morning arrival in LHR or a late night departure from that airport.

There's a lot to be said for staggered departures, whether or not its air, rail, ferry or coach operators.

Going by award availability (plenty compared to QF1/2) I'd say pretty bloody pathetic.

A colleague of mine went on a holiday recently to the UK, and said the flight was very full (in Y), he is a Gold and sat in the lower deck.

Flew DXB-MEL on QF10 in Y last week. Pretty much completely full. My strategic seat selection failed as too full a flight for a WP shadow.
