Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Simply load up your card by 29 June 2014 with at least AU $1000 equivalent in foreign currency to receive your bonus Qantas Points. What's more, there are 11 currencies available including Australian Dollars

It's slightly ambiguous in the wording. The first sentence reads that it must be foreign currency whereas the second almost implies that it AUD is one of the currencies available. I think I'll give it a try loading to AUD and then transferring back out after the 29th of June. If it doesn't work, all that's loss is a week of interest...

I have just rec' this offer 5K. Points for $1000 load. I have ignored it till now as I don't do bpay. How else can I load it? Will need Indo rupiah and HKD soon. What's best currency? Is it worth it at all?

Forgive typos, on ithing.

They have this info on the website:
[h=1]Loading Funds[/h] New load method coming soon
Qantas Cash is replacing POLi, introducing a faster way to load your funds. This will result in changes to the Product Disclosure Statement (containing Terms and Conditions). More information about these changes will be available soon.

So don't know how soon, soon is but could be an alternative for you.

I received the 5000 for $1000 load (in foreign currency) email just as I was reading this thread... considering loading, try to get all the bonus points I can get. I'm not travelling overseas anytime soon so I need to work out what currency to load to minimise loss via exchange.

I used my card a lot on the US last month so the offer makes sense to me. Just means I can put money on for my next trip.

My reading is that the first sentence takes priority, that is, you will need to load the equivalent of AUD1,000 in foreign currency to qualify for the bonus 5,000 points. The second sentence seems more like a copy-and-paste job with regards to the currencies available on the facility.

From the Qantas Cash FAQs:

You have different options for loading Qantas Cash. You can either:
1) Load via qantascash.com using BPAY® or POLI™;
2) Load via the Qantas Cash mobile app using BPAY;
3) Load via your bank using BPAY.

So your only other option besides BPAY is POLI (at this time).

Also, note HKD is a currency that is offered but not IDR.

Never applied / thought about QCash at all.

Received my new QCash-enabled WP card yesterday followed by the 5,000 bonus point offer today.

I think it is handy for my upcoming trips.

Will activate & load AUD1,000 to get the free points (no 3% CC surcharge)

Like this !

would be interested to hear strategies on gaming this offer without the genuine need to purchase foreign currency... The key will be to use the foreign currency domestically, not converted back into AUD...

Using the foreign currency locally is not really an option if it attracts a ~3% charge, also I'd imagine the conversion rate would be pretty ordinary as well.

Ok brains trust, how do I use this offer...?

Hmmm online shopping for goods then delivered to Australia?

Re: Qantas Cash email offer -Load and receive 5,000 bonus Qantas Points

I've loaded my card about twice in the previous month and daily use on card and i received the 5000 points offer if that helps narrow down who they are targeting with which offer.

I received the 5000 points offer and have not used my card since Dec 13.

Re: Qantas Cash email offer -Load and receive 5,000 bonus Qantas Points

+1 for the 2.5k points offer club.

Maybe if I hold out it will go up like the initial load bonus....

Works for me, about to go to Rarotonga for a week with my family so will load with NZD.!

Depending on the currency you will lose $35-60 in arbitrage compared to Citi/28 degrees rates, that's the cost of the points.

Thinking about loading $1000AU into US$ then converting it back for the points as I'm not travelling overseas anytime soon but it's not worth it, going to lose $35+ in the conversion thanks to exchange rates offered by QCash, that out weighs the 5000points earned. I think the only I end up in front is if I hold the funds in US$ and play the exchange game... I don't really want to do that.

considering I can harvest 5,000 QFF points via other means at a cost of ~AUD $21, and the fact that I am in no need for foreign currency, has me thinking that while its nice to see offers like this, this offer is not for me...

Yeah, understand that but 28 degrees gives me no points vs 6000 for loading QC (1000 for the use plus 5000 bonus), certainly at the $35 cost seems OK for me. Which are the countries with the best margins?

I answer to the question on how you use this for those not travelling, surely a transaction you were already intending to make in foreign currency, e.g. making use of the USDM share promo or buying from overseas websites is the answer. That way you dont lose twice on the FX.

Previous promotions had the following T&C's:

... load at least AU $xx_x or equivalent in foreign currency ...

This one is different with the T&C's:

... load a minimum of AU $xx_x equivalent in foreign currency in one transaction ...

So, with previous promotions it required one or more loadings of AUD to a certain figure, with this it's ONE transaction involving conversion to foreign currency.

In my case it's 5000 points for $1000 - I have no need for that much foreign currency, so will be passing on it ...
