On 5th July I excitedly booked seats on AC34 Sydney-Vancouver Direct 22/12, with an onward connection to Toronto two hous later. I was very happy about avoiding the need for; US Customs, a seemless quick connection through to Toronto, a new aircraft with AVOD and sticking to *Alliance to earn my points. We return a month later with a similar two hour wait in Vancouver.
All was going well until I logged onto Aeroplan to check things when I discovered that they have taken me off the outbound flights!
AC34 was originally scheduled to depart SYD at around 1150am but has changed to 1330. This subsequently means that we would miss our connecting flight from Vancouver to Toronto (AC130) which leaves at 9am.
Air Canada in their wisdom have put us onto UA flights through LAX then AC onto Toronto! We are very upset about this as if we had have know this we would have not booked with AC! I can't understand why they didn't just leave us on AC34 that actually goes all the way through to Toronto after a 2 hour stop in Vancouver, or at least connected us in Vancouver with a later Vancouver-Toronto flight?
    We have been completely re-routed!
Can I do anything about this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Phone them and ask about options.

But I suggest you calm down a little first and don't get agressive with them. In most cases, the airlines are willing to look at viable options when there is a schedule change. But make sure you approach it that way rather than shouting at them.

Dont get mad...just potilety ask why you werent transferred to AC34 which seems to operate theu to Toronto....sometimes when airline reaccomodate it is an automatic process...I'm assuming you werent on AC34 from Vancouver in the first place...either way it no big deal to sort you out. Most legacy carriers look favourably on passengers disrupted....especially when you tell them you chose AC to aviod LAX and US customs. I have always found AC a very good airline to deal with

Thank you all for your suggestions and advice.
I called AC in Sydney on Friday and spoke to a hopefully helpful person.
He said that indeed it appears that due to the schedule change with AC 34 SYD-YVR the computer system looked for a 'best fit' scenario and put me onto UA, despite there being better connections through YVR with AC.
He said that he would email the financial services dept(?) to seek a solution. He said that there were no more fares available on AC for that date at the price that I paid but that as it was AC's error that he should be able to fix it up.
I checked our Aeroplan on Fridy evening to discover that my booking has been fully cancelled. I am hoping that this means that AC are workng on it.
Finding this stressful as Ticket prices for Dec 22nd have risen considerably since I booked on July 5th. (more than $1500 for the two of us combined).
I will keep you posted on this ongoing saga.
Thanks again for your help. If anyone else had had a similar experience (hopefully with a postive ending) then please let me know. :)
