I'm yet to reach 25,000kms with my mk3 Focus RS.

That's about 2,500kms a year.

Our EQA EV is due for first service after 12 months with 4641Kms. Saved a lot on fuel as well as electricity!

Over the years I have had a good run with the trusty old Ford Laser wagons aka Mazda 323. Got past 350k with the 1988 model, and 400k with the 1997 model before I sold them. I was doing at least 20,000 kms per year. But in recent years,especially with Covid and working-from-home becoming the norm, I'm lucky to get past 8k per year. My 2002 BMW 530i has just ticked over 304k, although I'll be retiring it soon as a few age related quirks are starting to pop up, which can equal big $s.

My partners son still has his first car which is 2002 Mazda 323 manual. with around 360k. Funny thing is we have 3-4 cars made in 2002 must have been a good year as all but one is still going.

To be fair some people just are wired differently. In such a way they think that they must stay in the seat allocated to them. And it might not occur to them that they could or even should shift. For example someone who is on the spectrum.

And some airlines like JQ advise you must remain in allocated seat for the duration of the flight unless a move approved by cabin crew.

Yes, but this was not! This was a business person, in a suit, reading a book.

As an aside… I would move over one seat in a block of two or three even if advised to remain in my allocated seat. I wouldn’t move to a separate block or different row.

No, not really on the trips we took. Preston to the city on the tram, Parliament to Bell st on the train, plenty of free seats.

Flying back into Adelaide on Thursday I moved to an earlier domestic flight after my international connection to SYD arrived on time. And then as QF1993 was on approach to ADL, coming in over the ocean, I experienced my airplane first go-around, which was rather exciting.

Apparently the wind had changed quicker than expected, so we had to pull up quite sharply and circle around to approach over the hills and then land from the other end of the runway.🛩

LTIL - After being successful with obtaining 3 from 3 desired items at Bondi Records during last Saturday's Record Store Day, I was thrilled to score the 1 and only copy of BABYMETAL - Live At The O2 Arena (Highlights) on crystal clear vinyl that the store had managed to secure (which hadn't arrived in time for the actual RSD2026 event). So that makes it 4 from 4 desired items for RSD2026. Gotta be happy with that!

LTIL (short version) -: I now "officially" own my electric mower and whipper-snipper.

LTIL (back story) -:
There was a period where I was being lazy and paying for someone to come and do my lawns/edges, which obviously cost me $X each time and it was always a great job. Unfortunately, the guy doing the work sold his business and the bloke who took over was a slimy, dodgy $#!&@. The last straw was when he was locked in to do the lawns and edges on a few days before Christmas back in 2024. Naturally, he was a total no-show - not even a phone call or a text message saying he was unable to make it. Eventually contacted him and got a commitment for him to come on Christmas Eve to do the job, but once more, a total no-show and no communication. I decided there and then that I would never use his services again and I wouldn't even bother to tell him I was letting him go.

I went looking for a new electric mower and whipper-snipper. Ended up purchasing some higher-quality equipment for a decent price at the Boxing Day Sales (i.e. something that wouldn't run out of juice too quickly and was powerful enough to deal with thick buffalo) and have quietly maintained a spreadsheet ever since to track the "pay-off" (i.e. every time I do my own lawns/edges, $X comes off the purchase price of the equipment) until such time as the amount I would have spent on someone doing the work for me has covered off the purchase price of the equipment. Well, that day has finally arrived today and I'm now officially into "savings" territory.

Oh, and I've never ever heard another peep from the dodgy lawns guy since just before Christmas 2024. How on earth can you run a sustainable business like that??

Not the same but similar. We have no grass on own property but Brisbane city council mandates the adjoining owner must maintain the small strip of grass between the property and curb.

Local lawn guy wanted $70cash (more for account) for each cut and when he was already here cutting next door.

Bought a battery mower, lawn edger, hedge cutter and blower in a package plus some spare batteries for less than $400.

When you need a cut 2-3 weekly in the wetter months to keep it tidy, kit paid for in less than 6 months. Bonus; can do it whenever I want/it needs, can blow the leaves off patio and driveway from pesky council trees every couple days, charge the batteries off the roof solar for free, gets me off my backside occasionally and also got a electric hedge cutter instead of using the old shears for trimming.
