Little things I like

I love the fragrance of Jasmine, not something you see/smell down here by the beach.
Surfer Flyfrequently (120 metres around the corner) has a beautiful climbing jasmine from a cutting my Dad gave her when they moved here 13 years ago - reminds me so much of my folks, spring and growing up.
I suffer hayfever so keep the windows shut on this side at the moment. Not sure why it was planted as the complex is surrounded by reserve but makes the barb wire disappear. PXL_20251102_033523705.jpg

Clothes dryer decided to pack it in last Thursday after some 17 odd years of very infrequent use. A quick bit of Google research suggested some quick troubleshooting steps to help identify the likely root cause. Ordered a replacement component that was looking like the most likely culprit for the mammoth sum of $59.90 delivered.

Part arrived today, and after about 30 minutes' worth of work, I've swapped it over and now have a fully functioning dryer. When I compare this to spending $500 odd for an equivalent current model from the same brand, I'm must say I'm feeling pretty chuffed with myself.

I did the same with our trusty Acer Laptop, which I bought in early 2020. It hadn't missed a beat, and then a couple of months ago the battery life went south quickly, and it wouldn't work even plugged in. Thankfully Youtube came to the rescue, and I identified a couple of issues; the power plug on the laptop was badly worn, and most likely the battery had died. It cost me $100 in parts and an hour of my time; I pulled the laptop apart, replaced the plug and the battery, and it's been better than new ever since. I even discovered it had a second drive bay, so I dropped another 500GB SSD drive ($50) into there, doubling the storage capacity.

Why not just buy a new one, given it was 5+ years old? It's a 14" laptop which makes it the right size, it has zippy performace (ACER Swift 314 Ryzen 5 Radeon Graphic Card), and I hate spending money when I don't have to.

Very impressive

In the Brisbane QF J lounge this morning there’s was a young boy - perhaps 6 or 7 years old - all dressed up in his pilot uniform.

He stood at the window watching all the planes and talking with his father about the different types and where they might be going.

He mentioned a model A380 in his bedroom and wanted to see one.

I whipped out FR24 and by coincidence EK434 was on final for 01L.

I directed him to the other side of the lounge and he was so delighted to see it land.
