Hi all

In my ongoing struggle to make my mother's journey here "perfect" I now have another mission.

My parents are travelling lca-dxb-bne on a paid J Emirates flight. I have booked them a red-e-deal in whY BNE-SYD.

I was wondering as this is essentially the same itinerary (if not the same ticket) whether they could somehow link the tickets to get the luggage allowance from EK somehow pushed over to the QF booking.

Is this possible and if so how can I communicate the correct phrasing to my parent's Cypriot TA (who does of course speak english)?

My other plan is to pay to upgrade the tickets to be upgradeable to J and use my points to put them in J - but that is a project for when I am back from travels...

Any help is as ever gratefully accepted.

Cheers

S

If the stay in BNE is transit. EK should be able to check the luggage through to SYD. They then pick it up in BNE cleasr customes, then re check it with the tags on them for the run to SYD.

I assume this would work.

I draw this (perhaps flawed conclusion) from experiences I have had.

I have had the abbility to check luggage through to final destination before despide them being seperate tickets. Also I have also internationl luggage checked SIN-PER-BNE, I picked it up in PER cleared customs and handed it back in. They looked at the tags and just sent it through. In BNE is sill had the SIN tags and F tags. I had many people looking at the F tags un the domestic belt :)

They arrive into BNE around 11PM and depart around 11AM - would this count as a transit?

Yes, That is similar to my SIN-PER//PER-BNE.

Justt get them to show the eticket at checking and ask for it to be checked through to SYD. Should even be priority in Syd :)

That's great news - thanks. I will still try for the upgrade tho - always helps with inheritance planning ;)

Here is some good news I found on FT

Thought I would provide an update.

MIL checked in at BNE today and they booked her bags all the way through to DXB, even though she was on seperate PNR's with QF and EK.

Collected her boarding pass at transit in SIN and is currently sitting in the SATS Premier Lounge ( ).

Thanks for all the advice provided.

I was wondering as this is essentially the same itinerary (if not the same ticket) whether they could somehow link the tickets to get the luggage allowance from EK somehow pushed over to the QF booking.

Whether EK and QF use the same system , I don't know. If they don't, then there would be no way to link the bookings

All linking the bookings will do is to provide information of a connection, it will not make any difference to the luggage allowances.

EK J will permit them 30Kg total whilst QF Y will permit 1 Piece of no more than 32 Kg

If the passenger has 2 pieces , then I wouldn't get too concerned over the QF excess baggage fees, since if charged, it will be about $22 per piece, but there is a good chance of not being charged especially if total weight is < 30Kg anyways methinks

If concerned on the allowances, wouldn't it be possible to change the DXB-BNE to be a DXB-SYD and avoid it altogether?

There's no way to link 2 bookings today together, you can put vendor remarks in the QF booking, or contact them to ask but there's no guarantee it will do anything, and it certainly doesn't link the bookings like a TCP will when there are 2 pax on 2 pnrs on the same flight.

QF are usually pretty good when it concerns luggage coming from an intl flight, even when its not QF Intl.

If they're arriving at 11pm and departing at 11am, they're going to have to collect their bags at BNE Intl and recheck them at domestic the next morning I would assume, as it's not like arriving into SYD at 6am and transiting to QF Dom at 9am, its overnight.

The best thing they can do if QF give them grief is to mention they've come off an EK intl flight and see if that helps.

Hope that helps
