Morning all

I am off to MEL next weekend and a girlfriend has decided to tag along. I have called QF and got the 2 PRNs linked, however I don't notice any change on "manage my booking".

Is that normal? I had imagined they would show up as a companion when choosing seats etc. She's a slightly nervous flyer so would prefer not to be separated (though of course, we will not rearrange the plane or claim other peoples' seats if that does happen!)

When Qantas "link" bookings they don't actually "combine" them as with Amadeus, that cannot be done (i.e. merge PNR's).

What should happen in these case is that a "TCP"* notification is applied to a booking making a logical link to another. (Not just a "note in the booking".)

To be done properly this needs to be be applied to both bookings, each individually linking back to the other. This is not always done. (I have a habit of calling back, once for each booking and asking if the booking of another person I am travelling with is "linked" to it.)

Without access to a GDS you indeed would not see any change to either bookings.

* ("To Complete Party")

Coolio :)

I will make sure to get to the airport a little earlier to request seats together just in case.

You could always OLCI after doing the t-80 trick to maximise chances!

Ah but I currently have exit row booked, and she is even less than an NB (no QFF number at all, sacrilege I know!) so can't choose there.

Here's where you can call and ask.

Hopefully you'll get an agent who is happy "queue a request" to "Seating" for such allocation on your behalf.

I had a NB friend seated with me in row 11 of an A380 so they can definitely do it, maybe give them another buzz

I will tomorrow ... having a bad luck of run on the phone today! Will get a glass of wine in the meantime :)

just a minor correction, TCP stands for Total Complete Party

Just ring up Qantas and say you have the flights linked but when you login as your gf you can't see the seat next to you to vacant yet when you login as you it is (play dumb) depending on who you speak to and their login level/knowledge of the system they will either do it right then and there (they have told me once before they just trick the system to make it look like your companion has the same status as you then open the seat map, allocate the seat then put them back to normal) or will put you on hold and ring seating and get it done. Should only take a couple of minutes.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but its related..

I have a Y Intl booking as a QF WP on one ticket and my relative has a Y booking as a QF NB on a separate ticket but same flight.
Now question is if I have these 2 separate bookings 'virtually linked' to each other will my relative not have to pay the $20 seat selection fee as I am WP or will they still have to pay but just better seat selection?

Anyone?

I've had the bookings linked by QF, but my Bronze relative can still only see standard seats is that normal and not Platinum seats?

Whats the point of linking then ? :)

I believe the linking is more back end of the system.
I was linked with dad (non-status). Once the flight went under airport control, he wasn't able to select seats online, however we were both seated together in row 32 (flight was 100% full).

They've put a 'seat request' for next to me but it still shows empty..oh well we'll see what happens at T-80 or checkin

I realise seating is always subject to change but can't reservations just allocate them a seat next to you as you're WP so the relative does not have to pay the $25.00.

Another AFFer was able to do that as she was NB on a separate pnr from her PS spouse & 2 kids in another booking. They got pre-seated together by res & no fee was charged.

Just an update, I called QF premium line for the first time and got a lovely lady, who was able to seat my relative next to me, now reflecting in EF. No fee charged. Awesome experience this is why I like being QFF Plat!
