Has anyone else noticed very limited J award availability on CX between HKG and MEL in 2020? I have been looking in February and June/July and see virtually no seats available.

Two points:

1) CX is now biased towards married segment redemptions. Thus it may not show MEL-HKG when you search but if you search MEL-BKK it will then show availability for MEL-HKG-BKK.

2) Of all the Australian routes, MEL seems to be the most popular and the hardest to book. Easier to get availability out of PER, ADL, SYD even.

CX had great availability across their network until their award overhaul last year. We flew CX in J class awards seats for our holiday to Europe two years ago. We are heading there again next month but couldn't get a CX for this trip ... although I scoured the award site for months hoping to get seats.
