Hi there,

I am flying to the LA-Seattle tomorrow from Melb.
I am Gold Status and have almost reached Plat in 6 months, new job etc...
I have requested an upgrade from a real expensive Economy seat to Business.... on the QF93....

Can you guys, who i can tell are super experienced let me know, what are my chances...?

I am doing my masters and really need that time alone to get a chunk done on the way out and back.

p.s. i have the points available for the upgrades.

I presume you have checked the usual suspects to see how full the flight is? If it's tight, you may be out of luck.
 
Always depends on the loading and how many CL, P1, WP are in front of you. Not sure the $ you paid matters
 
Just checked expert flyer and there are 8 Blocked seats on the chart....
Also when you look to buy there it says 5 seats of less available.... crossing fingers, toes and everything else... well most things.
 
:-( Got waitlisted on Premium Ec... better than nothing....
Haven't been on it before, what do you guys think about it?
 
Now says nothing.... just basically in Economy, does that mean i have done my dash?
Or is there hope of an upgrade at the gate tomorrow?

Your chances of an upgrade to business are slim. This is what I see:

F5 A2 J3 C2 D0 I0 W2 R2 T0 Y9 B9 H9K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9 E0 0
So there's only 3 or so Business seats left for sale.

The seat map is equally bleak unfortunately.

W2 R2 means Premium Economy is pretty full too.

Have you put your Qantas reference number into https://classic.checkmytrip.com and seen what it says? Are your Business/Premium segments listed as 'waitlisted' at all?
 
It did have me as Prem waitlisted but that was for a total of about 30mins where i noticed...

Checkmytrip has me as economy.... very sad....
 
Just also checked on upgrade and it says Business not available but Prem Ec is still listed as requested...
 
If you selected the option to upgrade up until departure, you may end up getting lucky.

As always with Qantas, only ever expect the cabin you purchased, and if your upgrade clears, that's a bonus (sad that it's come to that, but alas that's how it is).

Or you have picked a flight with high paid demand for seats, and some WP's ahead of you in the pecking order to upgrade from Y+ and Y. I'm sorry if you do wind up staying in Y, but an upgrade request is just that and if there are people ahead in the queue for only a small number of seats than really you have to cop it.

Anyway at last minute you could see a cascade of upgrades J->F,Y+->J and Y-Y+/J so all hope is not lost.

From another point of view it would be sad if QF could upgrade everyone because that would mean their actual paying J customers would be less, which is not a good longer term situation for the airline if that consistently happened.

I have flown Business once and it would be nice to get back there, last time was 12 years ago and it is such a long leg to LA...
But, i will survive if this doesn't occur.

But, i will survive if this doesn't occur.
Well my fingers will be crossed for you. I totally get it and understand specially on a long flight like that. I think we've all been there! Hopefully you get a notification earlier, or even the magical BEEEP at the gate as you go to board resigned to 14+ hours in whY....

It doesn't look too hopeful to be honest as there could be CL, P1 or WP's above you in PE with upgrade requests in too. Did you opt in for an upgrade on the day in the event of commercial noshow pax?

Looking at the above loads I'd be expecting to travel in your ticketed class of travel. Have you pre-allocated your seat yet?
 
The F5 A2 suggests there may be some J->F ups in the offing but still, I agree, it's iffy on the looks of that.
Of course things can change at the last minute - misconnects, cancels, changes etc so there's always a chance :)
 
i have pre-alocated a seat, it does look as though there are a few empty in economy, so hopefully i have some empty seat(s) next to me.
i did also opt in for an upgrade at gate.

i am ok and resigned to sitting in economy. i dont really mind it, its fine.

I hear what your saying but remember anyone with CL or P1 , is spending many more $ and plenty more time in the Air than you, and even WP are more likely to be in the air more than you.

but do make sure you take the advice and allow for at gate upgrades as their are often drop outs
 
i see your on A388, have you got the best seat you can find, Upper Y etc. ?
