In relation to "Re: [Confirmed] No LHR T5 Galleries access for QP before BA/QF flights" where is was posted:"

I've been lurking for a few days now and find that I now feel the need to put something out there. Please excuse me if this has been said before or if you think I am way off base. The owners of the Qantas group own two major airlines, one of which is constrained by 'the Qantas Sale Act and one which isn't. Wouldn't the best long term strategy be to let the one that is hard to manage and costing more fall apart whilst growing the other to take its place. I don't know what others think but all I see is Jetstar taking over more routes and Qantas routes and services decreasing. One particularly annoying example is at OOL where as a lifetime QP I can't even use the Jetstar lounge. With services disappearing all the time why are we surprised that another club is now no longer available to QP members? If this is not the case, why can Jetstar pax use the Qantas Club lounge but QF pax can't use the Jetstar lounge, both owned by the Qantas Group if not to force pax from Qantas to Jetstar ?

Welcome to AFF. :D

Yes, it is rather tough with QF doing this - I have moved you post from the other thread to here as it is really a separate topic.

While that is the company's views, others have different views

So are you suggesting they close down Qantas ??

But there are no Qantas services at OOL, nor BA or AA, so why should QP have a lounge.... You pay cheaper fares for your JQ flight, so you can buy QP access if you want.

Jetstar pax generally can't use Qantas lounges. Jetstar Business Class pax get lounge access (whereby JQ pays QF I assume). Qantas Elites get access to their own lounge when flying Jetstar, other oneworld elites don't

Of course, there used to be a QP at OOL - used it myself quite a few times in the past.

Life membership would have been a reasonable deal for a denizen of Coolangatta/Tweed heads back then.

I think the OP has a legitimate issue - but I don't see that much can really be done.

I'm not suggesting that Qantas should close down, I am suggesting that this might be a long term strategy being employed by the group to break free of the constraints of the Qantas Sale Act.

As for the comment that there are no Qantas flights from OOL, I agree, but there used to be and a lounge too. I'm not flying to OOL with Jetstar because of the cheap fares. I'm flying there because my ultimate destination is a short distance away, I would prefer to fly J there and back but that is not available to me.

Sounds like another QFF "Enhancement". To the OP I say welcome to the QFF "Enhancement" club. If you are upset, as you should be, don't stay quite, make a stink as many in the AFF did and forced QF to introduce domestic priority boarding. If we had not made a stink, QF would have never done a thing. So AFF can effect change in QF.

Go team AFF. We do have the power to effect change.

I like the way that children 6 and under can use the lounge and as I gather very few travel alone, I wonder if they can bring a guest :p

"Jetstar offers our passengers exclusive use of two fantastic Lounges. The Gold Coast Lounge located at Gold Coast Airport, and the Ākarana Lounge located at Auckland Airport, New Zealand. Lounge access can be pre-purchased when booking your flight online, or by calling Jetstar Reservations. We are also pleased to offer lounge access free of charge for passengers travelling on StarClass or for children 6 years or under."

With Virgin offering J and opening quite a few new lounges shortly, you do have an alternative.

Word going around is that JQ will be closing their lounges shortly, OOL and AKL and whatever other ones they have.

If I am flying JQ, one in beyond a Blue Moon, I have accessed T2 @ Syd Airport (I am sure as Gold & Plat)

QF charge JQ accounts for the use...yeah right !!!! Dick Smith might think so, see PCDU Podcast re 'QF Grounding' but I reckon not as unlike OneWorld Int, QF dont record you as in the Lounge under JQ or QFLink for that matter

I live in the GC & Travel to BNE ALL Sectors OOL is NOT a Cat 1 ILS airport & suffers just as much from the poor facilities & inadequate Aviation facilities...not all will agree.

I was on the last QF into OOL & if QF say the route was unprofitable ask for load factors & J Load factors !!!

Cheers to the QF Plat Lifetime...thats my goal...

Nice to know for many, but lifetime QP not gunna help here anyway - unless DJ wanna "status match" LT "The Lounge" membership for LT QP! :p

maybe now that Gold Coast will have the Comm Games, QF might move back in and re-open the QP?

Not surprised by this. I haven't been in OOL but in 6+ visits to AKL it's been as dead as the proverbial dodo.
The only visitors bar the Shrek family were bewildered punters who wandered in via the automatic doors, realised it wasn't a cafe and promptly exited again to the gate.

I'm from the Sunny Coast - so for me the best thing about the Gold Coast is flying past it at 20 odd thousand feet & climbing. Other than that - I think that the OP has a legitimate gripe here. Dead set, we are jumping up & down & all over the place about T5 how about the Gold Coast.....QF, control this one therefore, there is no other to blame.

Red Roo, where are you.......

Jetstar Business Class pax get lounge access

No, they don't.
Not unless they've paid the "Max bundle" which can add up to $700 to a Jetstar Business Class Fare, from Mel-Sin for example.
Jetstar "basic" business/Star class gets you a free pie and a video but no mixing with the glitterati in the QF lounge.

So. What you are telling us, is that the Qantas product does not get recognised by Jetstar. That's disappointing for a QP, but not surprising!!!

I had referenced the "prefer to fly J comment" making lifetime QP just as redundant.

Fair enough .. I'm assuming the OP is wanting QFF points/and may be flying JQ with the bundle.

Then again that indicates another change that's relevant to the OP - it's only been in the last year or three that domestic J travel on QF in itself entitled one to QP access.

Back when they purchased their life membership, this was not the case. QP membership was necessary.

I bought my QP membership years ago when I had to fly economy for business. In the later years it was convenient as QF started to relinquish sectors to JStar. i.e. had no choice but to fly JStar but still had QP access. When I paid for my QP membership, the Qantas Group flew almost everywhere I wanted to go and had many lounges. As time goes by the Qantas Group still flies to those places but now many under a new name. This change of name now erodes the value of my membership. My real point for this is why is the Qantas Group doing this? Why are they making changes to devalue the brand? I wanted to fly J to OOL but there were no flights with that option, so not only am I flying in the back but when I return from OOL I won't be in a lounge. Sure I can pay extra for it, but why should I, I paid thousands for my QP membership to the same company that owns both airlines. I just don't understand how the management of a company can run it down, unless there is a alterier (spelling?) motive. Yes I have choices, I recently but the bullet and purchase DJ J tickets to Hamilton Island because the Qantas Group don't offer it.

Sorry for the rant. (not really)

If the gold coast is your home port you are entitled to a refund of your qantas club membership due to the closure of the OOL lounge.
