Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

Unless QF starts doing quintuple or better SC offers that count towards LTP or drops the number of SCs needed to a reasonable level I think I’ll stick to trying to get LTG.

Well not yet.

The cynic in me thinks that with LTP set at 75k, the numbers for LTG & LTS will increase in the next round.

I have a niggling little feeling that at some point ‘to calibrate the new LTP announced a revision of LTS and LTG has been decided’. It makes (horrible) sense...

But surely they would have to grandfather it if they did...? They would get serious blowback on that I think.

I am fairly certain that anyone who has attained LTS or LTG would keep it.

LTS costs them pretty much nothing and even LTG (while I value it) can’t be that costly. Many of the people who have it are still trying to keep WP each year and even those who are falling back on it are probably not using it all that much.

For us, we always fly J or F internationally, so we are getting lounge entry via COS and so the cost to Qantas is a few Qantas club visits domestically each year. Not going to break the bank.

LTP is different - can see that as more of a cost so can see why they want to keep it small and a reward for people who have flown crazy amounts with them.

Wasn't suggesting that they would take it away from those who already have it; but wouldn't be surprised if they increase the number of SCs to achieve it.

On that LTP topic - any idea what number of people would be in that 75,000 threshold group now, anyone???

I knew what you meant :)

I was wondering how they would grandfather the current hurdle rates (if they chose to)? Who would be grandfathered? Would be very very hard...

A few options come to mind (some may not be possible/be hard to implement):
1. Those who achieve it before/within the 3 month warning period grandfathered (mean option)
2. An extended grace period to achieve it and be grandfathered.
3. Those with more than X lifetime status credits or who have been a QFF member for more than Y years grandfathered.
4. Those who join the program before the 3 month warning period ends grandfathered (i.e. member number less than xx_xx_XX)

Just a warning a year or two out. Perhaps more. Then grandfathered. No point in three-month warning. Would be very poor form.

That's what I'm sweating on. I "should" get to LTG in about 12-18 months on my current flying pattern. If they move the goal posts just before I get to that point - I certainly won't be happy, but then what do I do?

I read somewhere (can't find it now) that it was less than 300
Less than 300? Could be 50. We will most likely never know the real number. Just like QF releasing up to one million more award seats. “Up to” means .......?

We never really know any of the numbers for Platinum members, Gold members, although we can make educated guesses.

In this case, as far as I know, it is somewhere in the 200's.

A year or two out would be completely inadequate for me. I'm still working towards LTS and my travel patterns wouldn't take me anywhere near P1, so progressing to LTG within a year or two would be out of the question, but LTS might just be achievable in that timeframe. So if they do increase the level needed for LTG I'll be hoping they don't increase it by much.

I think they would give a 3 months notice and then deal with those who just miss out on a case by case basis according to perceived value.

I don’t think they are going to though. As I said I don’t see it as a huge cost to them. (And a significant carrot)

QF could afford decent notice. Even some years away. Goodwill would work. Three months notice for a benefit that has taken people years/decades to achieve would be very poor form.
