Hi,

Traveling with some other guys soon (actually friday 12 hours after i get back from ICN-NRT-SYD-MEL, going to be fun asking if i can check in when i stop in sydney for my MEL-HKG-LHR-STR flights !) and we land and arrive Terminal 4, we then depart STR from terminal 1 on a BA flight (All booked via QF but has a BA flight number as no codeshare).

Any the main question is some are only QP members (only silver status otherwise) so the page lists QP in terminal 4, can we use any of the BA lounges in terminal 1 considering its a through booking all by qantas (All same confirmation number) ???

If we stay in terminal 4 how late can we transfer to terminal 1 ? (I assume QF/BA will check bags all the way though ?

The other question is any advise on good seats ? currently i am in 37C i am not sure if its a 2 class or 3 class service but either way thats not a front row forward isle.
EF seems not to be showing a seat map for Y yet for QF029 on 2nd march ?? but is F so assuming 3 class but not sure if thats correct info.

Yeah and what do do apart from shower, relax and drink for 4 and a half hours ?

Qantas Club members can use the BA lounge when departing on a BA flight.

You cannot get to the Qantas Club (actually its a A lounge anyway) in Terminal 4 since you won't have a boarding pass for a departing flight from Terminal 4 and the BAA rules will not permit you access to the departure area in a terminal other than the one for which you hold a valid boarding pass.

So you will need to head to Terminal 1. Two choices for getting there - follow the signs to the Flight Connections Centre (via bus from Terminal 4), or go through arrivals immigration and catch the Heathrow Express between terminals. My advice is to go through Flight Connections.

All QF flights to LHR are 3-class configuration. See my thread on my favourite seats for suggestions.

If you can get into the F lounge at Terminal 1 (i.e. you are OneWorld Emerald) then enjoy 4 hours of consumption of JW Blue.

I am not emerald yet :( cant see that happening when i do a lot of Y class travel and not much J at all !

Terminal 1 BA lounge any good and have showers ? (Not that i am that worried as it will be afternoon and evening i will be in hotel soon enough.

6 segments in 3 days... hmm for me not a bad effort ! and all but one international.

Yes, the T1 lounge is better than T4 in my opinion (at least the FLounge is, I don't spend much time in the J lounge but it has been fine when I have been in there). There are nice showers available.

Hi NM,

Any idea how to find out with EF not showing me details on seat map what planes config (50J or 64J) flies QF029 MEL-HKG-LHR ?

Also if you know the other 2 below ?
BA 0011 LHR-SIN
QF 010 SIN-MEL

Thanks, Evan

EF won't show the Y cabin if QF has closed it for pre-allocation. But they will usually show the J and F cabins. So look at the J cabin and see if it includes rows 23-26.

Hmm, just checked and none are available.

So being the smart little bunny I am, I just checked QF29 HKG-LHR on 3rd March and it shows J map with rows 23-26 included and no row 29/30. So its a 3-class 14F/50J config.

J is also not showing, a week later i assume the plane will be in use and that includes the rows 23-26. hmm not to call QF and attempt to try and get some seats changed. fun fun ! actually given how much the phone calls will cost i will try at the terminal tomorrow i think.

Yes, its the 50J version, per what EF shows for the second leg of the flight HKG-LHR on 3rd March. I suspect you may have problems getting seats moved now that they have closed if for pre-allocation. Looks like the flight is very full in all classes on both sectors.

Oh well i guess thats life sometimes ! maybe i could try for one of the pairs right down the back also, they seem ok as well. I sort of figured full if my booked seat is 37C. Just checked my SIN-MEL on 24th Mar and even that is reasonably busy with nothing much better than what i had been pre-allocated 37C again ! Only 3 J seats left on that flight + another 8 or so blocked.

I assume those are the exit rows (16AB/JK) and the bassinet positions (11JK, 23AB/JK).

On that flight I would be seeking 49D. 49G is taken and there is a reasonable chance 49EF will remain free unless the flight is full.

Hi,

How did you find that info ? i presume not EF.
Good idea though :) i will see how i go. I presume by the fact that the only seat you mentioned the flight really is rather full !

Yes, I used EF to look up the seat map for that flight.

How come you can and I can't ?
Oh well not to worry i will check it out in an hour or 2 when i re-check in in Japan.

Evan

In my experience, a seat map for a not quite full flight will close off about a week before the flight. The 2-3 days beforeand a seatmap will again be available.

This may be the situation in this case; however I can now only get an F map for the MEL-HKG leg.

I sign-in to EF and select Seat Map. Then enter the details as:

Departing Airport: SIN
Arriving Airport: MEL
Depart Date: 23/03/07
Airline Code: QF
Flight Number: 10
Class Code(s): F, J, Y

A few seconds later I see the seat maps.

Sorry i mis-understood :) i thought you were takling about the other flight.
It all becomes clear.

See post #11 where I quoted your flight information.

Maybe a little too much of the amber ale has been consumed ;)
