Hi All,

I’m flying into LHR on Oman (WY103, J, Terminal 4 )and out on BA (BA330, Y, Terminal 5) in a couple of months. Traveling with had luggage only, separate tickets.

I’m reading different things about whether I need to clear customs/passport in UK - Heathrow website says yes, I need to clear passport and and re-enter, UK ETA website says I don’t need one for connecting flights. I assumed if I had a boarding pass for BA, I could use the airside transfer bus.

I have 4.5 hours, so should be fine either way, but would be good to know what I am in for before I land on the ground. Anyone got experience doing similar?

In industry terms, you do not have "connecting" flights as your travel through LHR is on separate PNR's. So with that you should clear immigration/customs.

However, in practice there is little to prevent you trying flight connwctions.

Sorry, I should have been specific with my wording UK ETA website refers to transiting:

Directly from that website:
You do not need an ETA if you will not pass through UK border control. You should bring evidence of your onward journey, such as a ticket to your destination.

You always pass through border control if you:

  • leave the main airport building for any reason
  • need to collect your bags and check them in to your onward flight
You must also pass through border control if both:

  • your onward flight leaves on a different calendar day to when you arrive
  • there’s nowhere for you to stay overnight in the airport, for example in a transit hotel

Since your first trip has a final destination of London, you might not be able to check in at Muscat without an ETA.

Thanks serfty, I hadn’t considered that.

I’ll just stump up for one to ensure I can get there, and try my luck on the connections bus when I’m there.
