While I'm in a Qantas bashing mood.... why oh why oh why oh why oh why oh why oh why oh whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy haven't they got rid of Mr Perry and Mr Newson????? So tired and boring! Mr Newson's claim to fame was that a chair he made featured in a Madonna music video in 1993 - that's 26 years ago.

And Mr Perry: Rock Pool is boring. Your menus are boring You are boring. The QF First Lounge menu hasn't really changed in almost 10 years. Your insightful comment "the secret to good cooking is good ingredients", or whatever it is, always makes me laugh. My 3yo niece knows that you don't make good food with dirt - you should too.

When is someone going to call this sham out for what it is? Obviously pockets are being lined and favors are being done.... or Qantas' marketing and product team is the most uninspired and boring bunch of people to ever come out of the local TAFE...

When I fly on CX I love the fact that they proudly rotate their menus between the Exec Chefs of Hong Kong's finest hotels.... AA have different chefs for different different routes.....

How can we make them change???

I'm Qantas Platinum and in order to maintain Platinum need to fly Qantas (or JQ) domestically to be able to maintain status.

Excellent reason and they're also streets ahead of the opposition when it comes to service/product domestically. Just wish their airfares were not so exhorbitant but with some planning can get most airfares on double SCs.

I assume that you are posting in the spirit of this thread (i.e. outrageous thoughts) and do not actually believe what you have stated above...

My dirty little secret...

I've stepped off the chasing status merry-go-round... and I don't miss it one little bit!
I guess it feels as liberating as ditching social media (which I did 7 years ago with zero regrets)... I think I am almost there too....

Lets all fly seated backwards and board from the rear of the plane.

Hey it's an outrageous thought.
Reminds me of a funny true story...... back in the olden days maybe 2007 or so, when QF11 was still a 747 and still arrived at LAX T4 (American), I had the very unpleasant pleasure of flying for business with my boss and his wife. I was also with a colleague. Anyway, typical Mr Important Business, my boss and his wife were in F, and me and my colleague in Y, even though we were the ones that had to hit the ground running in LA and go straight to work....

Anyway, as many of you may recall, the gate that QF11 usually arrived at was one right at the front, in a corner where the main terminal building and the pier met. Too much of a squeeze for a large jet to come in under its own power and always had to be tugged in. Anyway, this particular day for whatever reason, the tug wasn't able to successfully align the aircraft to the jetbridge, and after about 20 minutes of trying, they gave up and made an announcement that they would be dsiembarking from the BACK via stairs! We were in the very back row so off the plane first!

About 30 mins later (I think it took that long for the plane to empty), while standing in the immigration queue, my boss pushes into the queue and comes up to us and demands we give him our places! Before I could say anything, however, a sassy immigration official comes up to him and literally screams at him to "GET TO THE BACK OF THE LINE!" He was so angry I thought he would have a stroke..... Anyway, still brings a smile to my face

Hey it's an outrageous thought.

Seated backwards is actually a good idea, much safer. Unfortunately the costs of doing this are prohibitive :(

Sorry to go OT for this thread, but I think Qantas stopped using Marc Newson in around 2014, when he worked on the J seats for the A330 and also moved to work for Apple with Jonny Ives.

David Caon was involved in the seat designs for the Dreamliner, and designed the new tableware for QF J (aka the smudgey plates).
The most recent domestic lounge updates have been designed by Woods Bagot.

I thought from reading this forum that David Caon had designed all the F & J in-air menus plus the F lounge menus, and that Neil Perry did the Dreamliner seats (and particularly the Premium Economy ones) & Skybed-II?

Maybe it is time that Perry bloke was sent packing and although AJ did many good things at QF but maybe it it is time for him to leave as well. QF seems to be on the downhill spiral of despair. The food in international J is now just horrible.

When Perry was first involved, the result was pretty spectacular.
One does wonder whether QF is paying 10% of what they paid back then to apply the name, even though the guy has nothing to do with anything apart from what was done back then.
He sold the entire group that Rockpool is in at least 5 years ago, and has nothing to do with it, yet they still trade on the 3 chef’s hats Rockpool got when it was his only restaurant 15 years ago.

Maybe that's the case but they still wheel out old Marc for a bit of PR whenever they can..

" ...seats are designed in collaboration with acclaimed designer Marc Newson and offer multiple storage solutions, plus a soft pillow and blanket."

Regardless, it is total BS and a marketing campaign aimed at no one. Does anyone here actually know anything about "seat designers" to the point that they will choose an airline over it? Who makes EK seats? Who makes CX seats? Who makes SQ seats??

Unless somebody can just rattle those names off as if it was common knowledge, that kind of intel is useless.

You obviously don’t remember how poorly QF food rated before that!

Unless somebody can just rattle those names off as if it was common knowledge, that kind of intel is useless.
Maybe if you’re a person responsible for aircraft & lounge interiors, you think that the target-market knows seat designers as well as they know chefs?

I can be outrageous , yet completely sincere, in one thought:

How about everyone stop complaining about trivia, and thank the airline industry for enabling this fast and safe method of travel, to almost everyone, to almost everywhere, for what is sheer peanuts......

Trivial Pursuit is frankly pretty annoying ...

... srsly though, $4k in J return to London last year. Flat beds, showers along the way, aircraft so quiet that it was easy to forget to switch the noise-cancelling back on when returning to your couch after going potty.

Go back to the 70’s, in terms of the average wage it was like 10x that to go to New Zealand. In Y.

Whilst we are on the topic of food bashing I have just looked at my VA account and after 26 flights since 19/5 that Luke chap at VA is not that much better. Although that chicken and penne or pulled lamb and barley was nice 10 weeks later with no other option gets a little boring.

I do believe that there is some MEL chef called George looking for a new gig. 😜
