Okay tickets picked up - well a sheet of paper with electronic numbers ;)

    04DEC - London LHR - Singapore - class A
    08DEC - Singapore - Perth - class D
    15DEC - Perth - Cairns - class D
    22DEC - Cairns - Brisbane - class V
    02JAN - Sydny - Hobart - class H
    09JAN - Hobart - Sydney - class S
    10JAN - Sydney - Hong Kong - class A
    14JAN - Hong Kong - London LHR - class A

I am not sure what PC means under baggage for a couple of the flights - I also need to look up the various Fare Basis codes (AAP, VPXI, HOX & SPXI)

Looking forward to it - I didn't call AA - I just did it via an email from AA.com which was nice and easy & got the confirmation email back.

I haven't worked out how many points I will earn yet - but hopefully it will be one or two :)

    The approximate distances are

    Code:
    LHR (51°28'39"N 000°27'41"W) SIN (01°21'01"N 103°59'40"E) 6765 mi
    SIN (01°21'01"N 103°59'40"E) PER (31°56'25"S 115°58'01"E) 2420 mi
    PER (31°56'25"S 115°58'01"E) CNS (16°53'09"S 145°45'19"E) 2133 mi
    CNS (16°53'09"S 145°45'19"E) BNE (27°23'03"S 153°07'03"E) 862 mi - 50% earning gives base 500
    BNE (27°23'03"S 153°07'03"E) SYD (33°56'46"S 151°10'38"E) 467 mi - min 500 earned
    SYD (33°56'46"S 151°10'38"E) HBA (42°50'10"S 147°30'37"E) 645 mi
    HBA (42°50'10"S 147°30'37"E) SYD (33°56'46"S 151°10'38"E) 645 mi - 50 % earning gives base 500
    SYD (33°56'46"S 151°10'38"E) HKG (22°18'32"N 113°54'53"E) 4581 mi
    HKG (22°18'32"N 113°54'53"E) LHR (51°28'39"N 00°27'41"W) 5994 mi

The 1st flight will complete the challenge so all will earn a 100% Plat bonus

Base miles earned will be 24038 and Platinum bonus will be 24038. 1st class COS for LHR-SIN and SYD-HKG-LHR will be approx 4335. Business class COS will be approx 1139

Total approx earnings will be 53,550. With 24k base miles you will earn 8 electronic upgrades which can, if desired, be converted to 4000 miles bringing the earning to 57,550

PC for luggage allowance indicates that the allowance is 1 Piece. On QF, that piece may be a max of 32Kg. The VPXI and SPXI are supersaver economy fares which allow changes before day of departure for $35 ( plus GST if applicable ) but no changes on day of departure and you cannot hop on an earlier flight if you arrive early at the airport. The HOX is the lower of the 2 full fare economy domestic fares so is unrestricted on changes and is fully refundable . The AAP is, I believe, an A class fare with an Advance Purchase requirement

    sounds nice thanks :)

What happens if you have more than one bag then when we check in for these flights??? Never heard of a 1 bag restriction before - crazy :( Our other flights mention 30K. Looks like we may need to upgrade our flights to business class then - as 1 bag will not be enough. We will probably have 2 bags each I guess.

I already have 32,000 miles - not sure what these electronic upgrades are - certainly have not had any mention of them yet in my membership - or are they dependant on travel in one year, which is just 10,000 for me to date.

The electronic upgrades are 500 mile upgrades. You get 4 for every 10000 miles flown. They can be ussed to upgrade 500 miles of travel - so say flying between two lpaces 430 miles apart on AA metal in the US you can use the upgrade to go from Y to J or more likely F on domestic. You can cash them in for actual miles if you wont be flying domestic US. You get 500 miles per upgrade.

Its automatic. If you only have 10K miles flown then this would be your first set of upgrades. They take a little while to post to you account - I got my first 4 about a week after the miles were posted.

Dont apologise for questions - just check out my posts and you will see a whole lot questions (and spam) than you have posted ;)

Electronic upgrades are Automatically accrued to the account if you are Gold/Platinum/Executive Platinum, as a base member you do not earn them

During the period, March 01 - end of Feb, you will accrue as a platinum member, 4 electronic upgrade credits for each 10,000 miles flown ( this will start with your qualifying flight ).

The electronic upgrades can be used to upgrade "domestic" flights on AA from economy to the next higher class. each upgrade credit will upgrade up to 500 miles. e.g. if flying from BOS-ORD which is 867 miles, then 2 upgrade credits will be needed

You can , if you have no need for them, convert the upgrades into miles at a rate of 4 upgrade credits gives 2000 miles

Once you are platinum, if you log into AA and go to "View my miles" you should see 2 entries

    Miles Towards Elite Upgrades: xxxx
    Upgrade Account Balance: xx

For every 10k in the "Miles Towards Elite Upgrades" you will get 4 upgrade credits. It takes a couple of days for them to credit after you pass the threshold

    Thanks for the replies :)

I was a little confused by the miles awarded -for example on a return flight the mileage was half that of the other leg

    2/04/06 QANTAS AIRWAYS 10 P LHR SIN 6,764 10,146 16,910
    12/08/06 QANTAS AIRWAYS 72 J SIN PER 2,420 3,025 5,445
    12/15/06 QANTAS AIRWAYS 1030 J PER CNS 2,131 2,664 4,795
    12/22/06 QANTAS AIRWAYS 709 Y CNS BNE 426 574 1,000
    01/02/07 QANTAS AIRWAYS 1019 Y SYD HBA 645 645 1,290
    01/09/07 QANTAS AIRWAYS 1020 Y HBA SYD 323 677 1,000
    01/14/07 QANTAS AIRWAYS 29 P HKG LHR 6,004 9,006 15,010
    01/10/07 QANTAS AIRWAYS 127 P SYD HKG 4,571 6,857 11,428

I guess it is all automated, so must be correct :)

    SYD-HBA is 645 miles

If you were booked in an economy booking class of YBHK or W , then you earn full miles and so get 645 base plus 645 platinum bonus giving 1290

If in a cheaper economy class, then you earn 50% miles = 323. Since 323 is less than 500, you get the guaranteed minimum of 500 and then the platinum bonus of 500 is applied giving 1000

But you you are all forgetting is the fact that during the first week of January there was a big storm over the Tasman and Tasmania was blown half way up the NSW coast. The Australian Navy came to the rescue and towed it back into position about a week later.
