That usually occurs after 6 or 7 pm (depending on season) when they also close the western end check in gates as premium desks (and sometimes open them as El Salvador check in desks only). The also sometimes close the main security queues we have all learned to love and have security through another (smaller) room on the western side of the terminal which feeds back into the central terminal corridor. I think this is due to lower volume of pax.

In the morning the elite check in desks and escalator will be open.

Yes one time was in the evening, the other time however was mid morning.

Why is that relevant? Hopefully good relevant  Just wish it was a three class service so I could upgrade (attempt anyway) to F.

Not on AKL flight (at least for a few years). If it had been 744 then small chance of getting 3-class a/c (like I did recently). But no chance with 743.

Ah well - its not like its cattle class with the proles :p. Its bizarre that in 68 hours of flying between 27 Oct and 12 Nov - i wont have much opportunity to get either a points upgrade to F and not even an op up opportunity on some of the flights ;)

Looks like next year might be the year of the F - never flown it - mind you it might be a bit of an addiction - once I start I wont be able to stop ;)

Welcome to my world. Most of my QF flights are not upgradeable, and those that are (trans-tasman) there is a ridiculous cost due to needing higher than red e-deal.

If you don't mind going via BOS, you can take the 16:25 departure from JFK-BOS , arriving at 17:35 and then take AA108 to LHR which is showing A7 at the moment arriving into LHR at 06:35. Alternatively, you can take a 17:00 departure out of LGA to connect to the same flight out of BOS

The flight from LAX-JFK is also showing A availability, so for 25k candy pieces , you can upgrade from LAX to LHR

Hmm - I see that my flight (AA100) has F5/A0 which I guess means I cant upgrade my D seat to F? The BOS might be a stretch - depends if I can get away from the office in NYT by 2PM - which might be tough.

Certainly going to be worth speaking to the lounge Dragons at LAX when I get there - I have three hours to see if it can be arranged :)

For a 5pm departure ex LGA, as long as you can be there by 4pm you will be fine. Depending on where your office is, a departure by 3pm should give you time to get to LGA for a 5pm departure. The non-stops from JFK-LHR are indeed showing as A0. You could set up an alert on EF to tell you when A becomes free on AA100 ( if it does ) ; personally, if I could get away by 15:00, I would change to the LGA-BOS-LHR run and get a nice F seat from LAX-NYC and BOS-LHR.

Also, AA108 ex BOS is showing to have the superior Flagship Suites whilst AA100 is showing to have "coffins"

Just setting up a notification on EF (didnt know I could do that :)). Given my local TA has the brains of a flea and cant add the domestic sectors I will get the flights reticketed in LAX and pay the fee - including the fee to upgrade if seats are available.

I will be able to get away by 3PM - office is in Manhattan 38th Street and 8th (I think) - so I think that is only maybe 30 mins from LGA - I remember it taking us about 30 mins going into the city from LA - mind you that was 10PM at night!

That alert is now set up - what a great option :D. If I get a notification next week I will stick to the JFK-LHR route but will be happy to do a switcheroo if necessary.

Cheers as always :)

If you do the upgrade now, then you will pay a lower expedite fee since you are still more than 1 week before departure. You can, if you wish, make the flight change with AA and get the upgrade sorted out now and then get the reissue of the ticket done at the airport , so no need to get the TA involved at all ( plus of course you can get the extra sectors added in ). If it was me, I would take the upgrade that is available now. If you desire , if AA100 becomes available before you reticket, you can always switch back to it ( though I would go for the Flagship suite flight in preference anyway) If you wait, you may well find A0 all round and no option to upgrade

You're pretty keen for that BOS flight for me :)

Just seems unlikely that a 17:00 flight to BOS from LGA would get me onto a 17:25 flight BOS-LHR?

Edit - I see that the BOS flight is the 19:10 flight - so plenty of time. Just only coach on the 17:25 flight - how will I survive  ;)

Sadly I only have 4K points on AA at the moment - I will only go through 15K on my SYD-BKK flight and 25K on my AKL-LAX flight. Man that SYD-BNE set off flights not crediting to AA is coming back to haunt me big time! I would have cracked 25K by before I fly to AKL. Stupid stupid sim!

And of course that includes a minimum 500 EQP and minimum 500 miles earned!
