Hi All,
Wasn't really sure where to put this, but I have a ton of questions about this or similar routing and benefits.
Itinerary all in whY is something like:
Questions
1. Flying SYD - LAX what perks will I get on star alliance given I am Amigo Diamond/Star Alliance Gold? Will I need my card?
2. Flying on Avianca what perks will I get? Any?
3. How do I calculate points and miles for all the trips to see if I can retain Avianca Diamond/Star A Gold? As there is rumours of a soft landing from diamond anyway, is there a point to this?
4. Flying USA domestic as star alliance gold what perks will I get? Ie upgrade list, comfort plus etc.
5. Will I get into star alliance lounge at TBIT on the way home?
6. Does it matter if i fly Avianca to central america or can I fly any star alliance airline?
I currently only have Velocity Gold and Amigo Diamond, but I'd also be keen to see if I can get status with another airline through this trip. I don't mind stop overs or long layovers, I have no specific time restraint or reason to be home. Cost then points then comfort are my priorities. I've already spent a considerable time looking at my date options and routing options and also that it is cheaper to book this in 3 ticketing segments (syd - lax, lax to SJO to ATL to lax, SJO to MGA to SJO). I'm just after the icing on the cake so to speak.

- Flying LAX - SJO on Avianca
- SJO - MGA - SJO on Avianca (I need to go back to SJO to pick up my sporting gear)
