Hi all,

Flying in J on QF from LAX to MEL on Christmas day at 9:10pm.

Am I crazy in thinking I could potentially catch the first half of the typical Lakers game that tends to tip off at 5pm at Staples Centre on Christmas day?

Does bag drop close 60mins prior to departure for J passengers, or 90mins? Would the roads be relatively quite to get from Staples to LAX on Christmas night around that time, and approx journey time? Would checking in online then doing just the bag drop at the airport reduce any times?

I'm thinking this is highly improbable, but even if I could catch an hour of the game I would be happy.

Long shot but any insight appreciated.

Thanks

I'd say traffic/driving/finding a car will likely take around 30mins total (possibly add a few minutes around LAX drop off and the Stadium pick up). QF bag drop should close 60 mins prior although with December still a fair way away there could be changes between now and then.

Not the craziest idea and here are some suggestions that come to mind some of which are a bit out there and might cost a bit (but obviously if spending quite a bit on the game ticket you want to enjoy it).

- Firstly is it possible to adjust your ticket and fly from say San Francisco? For example if you flew up to San Fran the day before and then had adjusted your Qantas ticket to include a AA flight, on Christmas day at SFO check in you'd then be checked through to Melbourne via LAX with a long layover (as would luggage) therefore removing the need to meet bag drop cut off in LAX.

- Another option would be to see if the private suite at LAX could help. They have a private security check point, check in and lounge away from the main LAX terminal, they then drive you in a private car to the aircraft. It's not cheap with access starting at US$995 per person but perhaps they might be able to help with early check in (earlier in the day) therefore allowing you to show up much closer to the flight.
