Suspect its not the easiest construction site, and needs to be phased so as not to totally screw up parking and access.

The rail line it connects to Crenshaw/LAX is due to open end-2019 and will run North to connect to the Expo line which allows you to go to Santa Monica or Downtown

I've previously done Silver Line Bus (from Downtown) then Train then Bus - actually avoids a bit of traffic.

But the automated train plus the new Crenshaw line will make it much easier
 
That’s the issue with having a hub-spoke airport.
An hub-spoke needs to be massive to be efficient but past a certain size it becomes too big.

Airlines are eschewing the A380 because it’s too big and unable to operate thinner point to point routes.
Is LAX too big?. $5 billion could build a new airport?
