On April 29th, travelling on QF107 in J, and arriving at 630am, it took 30 minutes to clear C & I at Lax and reach kerbside....would have been quicker if the officer didn't insist on my +! and I approaching his booth separately:shock::confused:

CBP at LAX are very AR with regard to what they consider 'family' in relation to using one customs form.

Generally the issue is that you need to have the same surname to be on the one form so you could be married but have different surnames so need two forms.

Haven't had those issues at DFW or ORD, only MIA & LAX.

Incidentally, I wonder when the US will allow other cities to do 'One Stop Clearance' if travelling HLO. At this stage it's only ORD but it took us 10 mins from when we stepped off the a/c to when we exited Customs.

The CBP Officer who stamps the passport & fingerprints you also takes the blue arrival form allowing you to bypass the baggage area completely.

It must be what having Global Entry is like ie brilliant.

Exact scenario we faced...had to hastily fill in a 2nd "blue" form...fortunately we weren't sent to the end of the immigration line again....the line had stated to develop "snake-like" features by this stage:shock:

To be sent to the back of the queue you'd be clutching a KE boarding pass & not even one customs form would be completed.

Was on QF107 to JFK on Wed (30th). It took me about 30 minutes to get through the transit at LAX and reach the OW lounge.

I had the opposite issue at LAX regarding different surnames.

My husband, myself, daughter and sister landed there. I hadn't changed my passport so was still under my maiden name.

Customs officer told me off and said I should have put our 'family' on the 1 declaration and my sister to have her own even though we had the same surname.

Poor thing had to fill another declaration in herself and line up and be questioned after we had travelled for 25 hours (she was only 19 too)

So who knows what rules they have. This year though I have my new passport so our family of 4 now will be on the one declaration.

Mum and I had no issue going through on the one form, but we had the other filled in just in case they said no.

For all I know CBP have no problem with different surnames for family members, but to be on the same form all "family" members need to live at the same address. In some countries like Sweden spouses don't change surnames, so this would be a bad system to identify families.

Had the friendliest CBP officer today at SJU on returning from HAV....only filled one blue customs form for both of us (different surnames), and asked us whether we liked Havana:). Did not get a grilling as expected!

Now I have been on main land and then to Hawaii and then going back to Lax. The united flight I figure will enter domestic gate and will not need to go through immigration AT LAX right?

Correct, you're flying domestic.

Took 30 minutes off QF11 last Thursday. I was first off the plane (in F) and first to Immigration.

The plane ahead of me was from the Middle East and I saw several people taken away for further questioning or returned to the queue to complete their forms. The airline representative was paged several times.

When the Immigration officer saw my Australian passport he processed me very quickly. The Customs officer smiled when I replied 'Vegemite' in response to his question about food and waved me on with 'have a good trip'.

To let others know.. The transit was seamless. immigration was 5 minutes, and all transit passengers on QF and AA are given a priority card. Lots of direction from airport staff too. Actually first time in over 20 visits that LAX won me over.
