Hi Everyone,

I will be travelling to North America and will be flying UA in J class. I am QF WP and wondering whether I have any lounge access while transiting in LAX and ORD? Would I be able to use the UA lounge as I have been refused entry before because I was on a domestic sector. Would I be able to use the AA lounge instead as OWE? Chances are that they may be in another terminal so won't be convenient, but in just case the flight was delayed.

Any help and assistance would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Cheers,

Mike79

I don't know about UA lounge access but as a Qantas Platinum you have anytime access to Qantas International Business Lounges.

So unfortunatley no access to AA lounges unless flying Oneworld.

On the issue on lounges, where in the US are the Flagship lounges which allow Qantas Platinums access when travelling on AA?

I've have been to the one in Term 4 LAX and also ORD.

To the OP, unless you have RCC membership or non-us carrier *A "*G" status then no access.
According to the AA site, they are also in MIA and JFK.
The MIA lounge in "E" will be closing soon and a new one is to open next year in D concourse.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Looks like will be spending a few hours wondering around the terminal - hopefully no delay!

I really dont think the flagship lounge in ORD is that good.. especially compared to other "top tier" lounges. Other part is its waaaay down the end of the terminal.. Maybe too picky ?

I was in the LAX TBIT QF FLounge the other week and it was jam packed and stinking hot.. The J Lounge was even worse..

When I was in Miami a few weeks ago they said "the new lounge will be open the next time you are here" which is in November... but like Serfty i thought it was next year too. I'll report back at the end of November :)

I totally agree - a very poor effort of a lounge. And no you're not being too picky!

Hmm - two transits through MIA recently and no sign of an F lounge... I shouldn't have assumed that there wasnt one :(

I emailed AA about this and they replied that the MIA F Lounge will close on 14 September with the new lounge not opening until "mid-2011".

Probably a bit too picky, it provides better amenities than most A/C IMHO (although you'll need the ORD AC for a shower).

I have made an 'artform' of using the T4 F/L before ex TBIT flights to Oz. ;)

It's been open for just over 18 months. It's closing as A are leaving "E" concourse. A new one is to open next northern Summer.

If the LHR Flagship lounge is any indicator, then you're not being too picky. It was quite adequate for my needs, but roughly similar to a decent QF business lounge. Certainly nothing like QF Flounges in MEL/SYD, or even SIN, or the CX ones at HKG.

The QF website has the following footnote for the LAX TBIT lounge:
#oneworld family policy access applies
What is the oneworld family access policy? There is no information on the oneworld lounge access page.

I was in the LAX T4 AA club last week and they would not even give me the free internet password because there was no Qantas staff on duty, I asked why is it AA customers are treat equally in a Qantas lounge yet when we use one of theirs we are treat second class. I was amazed you also had to buy your drinks and food as well.

I was in the One World club at LAX last night, over crowded, loud and screaming kids. No fun at all, Only stopped for a shower, it was nicer in the public areas of the terminal
