Lawrence Hargrave stuck at MEL

Re: QF A380 in the news again

Planes going tech are not solely limited to QF.

QF seem to be happier to delay flights (IME) than take off with problems compared to other airlines.

Not many average passengers are going to care until they are killed.

Oh wait....that doesn't make sense....

The more stubborn "average" passenger argument is why QF planes go tech in the first place if QF is supposed to be doing proper maintenance on them.

Re: What's wrong with Qantas?

I bet being a U.S bound flight would have made the rescreening even more difficult. Perhaps they would have disembarked pax if the flight was to LHR???

Indeed, I think specific mention was made of the US (and the more rigorous screening procedures) in the article.

Re: What's wrong with Qantas?

Well I was wrong, nonews have picked it up earlier than I thought:

Passengers stuck for four hours in A380 | News.com.au

"Just picking myself up off the floor from shock"...

I can't believe it, nonews have made a un-biased article about QF, and have even left comments off... Where is the anti QF, bash everything about the airline rant coupled with uninformed comments from the once a year fliers?

Which is one of the reason why they have never had a jet fall out of the sky...

This is the reason I have never been nervious on a QF plane for the reason that I know they take safety very seriously.

5 hours stuck on the plane waiting to depart sounds hellish .

I did this for 4½ hours on a 737 18 months ago ... (7pm - 11:30pm) the warm glow of the MEL F/L lasted about 90 minutes. I did do a lot of reading and at least I was in an exit aisle seat.

In the end they offered a choice of being put up in the Hilton or re-booking to a later days and return cab charges.

I had a 2 1/2 hour delay out of HKG to MEL around 18 months ago too. The Captain was very good with keeping us updated (I was in J, row 16 fortunately) but kept sprouting the 'Qantas policy of Saftey before Schedule'. The crew certainly kept us watered (With water) but the alcohol-induced haze of the J lounge wore off far too quickly. I could think of worse places to be stranded for 2 1/2 hours though (like down the back of the bus).

Were you on QF 128 to SYD? - [edit] Obviously not..... lol.
3 hr delay at the gate but the QF Captain kept everyone informed. Shame the Y FAs didn't want to know any of the passengers though.
Safety reasons and security screening process meant we couldn't offload:mad:.

O/T had a 2.5hr delay on CX as China decided to shut down airspace for a Military Exercise, again kudos to that captain and for adding more fuel and re routing. Plus an OP-UP from J to F on the return flight because of the prolonged inbound delay .

As a youngish child I got to sit for 7 hours in a qantas 747 at Mel (or syd) in 1978. Refuellers strike. Made doubly annoying by watching the LH aircraft that my parents almost booked land and take off again. Remembering what child terror I was I don't know how anyone coped.

on the matter of A380 problems I recently read somewhere all about the team airbus have in Australia helping work through these problems

They could have let passengers off the plane rather than leave them in the plane for 5 hours waiting to depart

Dave

One speculates that perhaps given the time it takes (to deplane and) to reboard an A380, that keeping the pax on the a/c was an attempt to get the a/c away as soon as the fault was rectified lest the crew "run out of duty hours".

As it turned out, the fault couldnt be repaired prior to the crew running out of hours. So in hindsight, sure, letting the pax off would have been better given they ended up having to let them off anyway.

Ahhh, the retrospectoscope, it is a wonderful device..........

Of course, there was the issue of having to individually searcheach passenger's carry on luggage again.

I wonder how many pax would disembark the aircraft if they were told they all had to remove their bags from the aircraft and be rescreened (some of them may have problems with this if they have purchased liquids > 100mL in the sterile area before boarding).

I still think offering refreshments and IFE is the right thing to do; this is not like cases in America where pax were left on a plane for greater than three hours without being docked at a gate and the pax got nothing at all.

Delayed further apparently due to "due to the large volume of A380 passengers boarding at Melbourne Airport".

Well! Duh!
