Latest Qantas Business Amenity - Looks and Feels so Cheap

I have an easy solution to peace in your family...send them to me!! Dyptique is the bomb. I was introduced to them through QR's amentieis kits. The first ones I received were the best, haven't flown them for a while so I'm eager to see what they are like when I fly with them again on Friday.
I think I got in first here 😂

Obviously I don’t think QR and EK are bad airlines but the way people talk on here you’d think they did everything perfectly.
We all recount our own experiences (including the bloody bus gates) so hardly perfect but just in my opinion nearly always superior. 😊

First was DEL-DOH. Very ordinary flight, substandard crew. My FA spoke English but pronunciation was so bad I could barely understand him (I’m pretty good with accents, it wasn’t that), and he couldn’t understand my accent. So he just ignored me for most of the flight.

Second was DOH-CAI, “First” but not really. Crew were much better, except “Dine on Demand” was “we can delay your meal by 30 mins max”.

Yes not fused on Al Sawfa, not saying it was a bad lounge but think it’s a bit overhyped. They turned me off by the difficulty to get a glass of water. I think in the end I got a room temperature bottle of the local water? At least EK serve Evian glass bottles, chilled if you want.

Obviously I don’t think QR and EK are bad airlines but the way people talk on here you’d think they did everything perfectly. Not by a long shot. Equally QF doesn’t fk everything up, it does many things well - some better than those airlines.

QF used to have male and female amenity kits - I think about 15 years ago from memory. I guess that’s not PC these days.
My thoughts. The Qantas crew are almost always excellent. It's more hit and miss on other airlines. However the hard product I much prefer the ME planes. So it's up to each person to assess what matters most to them. I've had excellent service from Qantas, BA and KLM and Cathay. Awful from MAS. Great to Ok from EK and QR. I won't fly MAS again. When I check the price point then that's the decider for me. But I have a preference for EK and QR. at least they fly direct from Adelaide. 😉. And EK are bringing their new aircraft here. Winner.

Regional first. When there isn’t business offered on a flight, they put you in the titular ‘first’. So business cost with first class earn. Just a sop to local sensibilities I guess.

Yes, hence the quotes.

To quote you, another lemming, just a different variety 🤣

QF used to have male and female kits in F, at least as recently as when we flew in 2019.
Not even given a kit on SQ the other night 🤷‍♀️

Hard disagree about the hard product. I don’t rate the EK J bed (A380). I absolutely love QF’s J bed, always get a great sleep and it’s good for sitting too. As for service with EK I flew into CDG a few weeks ago, lights on with breakfast being served 2 hours prior to landing. QF and others manage to do this with the main lights off. I find the ME crew are almost always young and inexperienced. I guess this is why people make jokes about aging legacy carrier crews. That comes with a lot of pros, too.

As for QR I haven’t flown on their Q suite but wasn’t fussed on their 787, similar to BA and AA, feels like sleeping on a car seat. QR didn’t issue mattress toppers on either of my flights but I understand they do for true long haul.

It doesn’t appear so. In my own case that doesn’t matter because it’s only the smelly stuff that would be different and I don’t use cologne so I’m happy to give the Dyptique to the ladies at home. 😊
Absolutely they do have men’s and women’s amenity kits.
We have several large storage tubs at home full of them. Completely different style but not sure if there is a difference of contents because all are still sealed and never opened.

Business class has been unisex for a long time… I suppose because there weren’t any scents in them. At least going back to the Mk-1 skybeds IIRC.

They had different ones this side of the millennium (which I know because I never flew QF before the AN collapse).

I recall a flight when they ran out of men’s amenity kits and the FA apologised and gave me a female kit, explaining the contents were the same. Worked out well as I gave it to my Mum.

Goodness. Maybe the Dyptique eau d’toilette is meant for me! Or I appear rather feminine? (This is extremely unlikely.)

Have got the same kit in my last 8 flights this year - but no complaints from me.

Men’s shelter?

QR do have men’s and women’s kits. Men’s kits are generally black, women’s are generally white. They are usually placed on your seat before boarding.

Most Diptique scents are unisex.

Have you tried the QF J cabin on the 787-9? Not impressed at all. I ended up trying to sleep reclined as the flat seat had me bumping the infrastructure trying to get comfortable. I can't sleep on my back.

I had probably one of the best airline sleeps in ages flying QF 787 J SYD-YVR a year or so ago. Could have been something to do with the timing (but have also done DFW-SYD, SYD-SCL (ret) and most recently SYD-HNL.

All good as far as the seat goes - so long as I get a proper window seat (which I have). You don’t really need a door because it’s reasonably private.

Proper QSuites are nice but the window seats face backwards - doesn’t bother me but some don’t like that.

The new CX Aria is arguably nicer but not quite the F&B standard of QR.

No wonder it's hard to design a seat for all. Back sleeper though? It was the HNL flight where all the amenity kits were left behind.
