Does anyone know what this bag tag means? I did have a few problems with the bag drop. Is this related to a faulty bag tag? I had some problems with one of the bag drop terminals.

Sorry. Forgot to upload image. The bag had no barcodes at all only a next gen beer coaster.

Ok a lateral number is the location where all the bags for your flight are being held prior to being loaded into the luggage cans to be loaded onto the flight. In your case the bags were being collected at lateral number 4. There is nothing major to worry about. There could have been a problem with the computer program on that day where the system wasnt reading the flights loaded into the system to automatically equate QF400 - lateral 4, QF501 - lateral 5 etc. So as a back up the check-in agents attached a manual lateral tag so the scanners on the belt system downstairs can direct the bag to the correct location to be loaded.
