LATAM lounge access in Chile with Qantas status?

Later this month I need to take a couple of domestic Y flights in Chile, plus a flight to Peru and I'm wondering whether to spend a few dollars more to fly with LATAM. Will my Qantas Gold get me into the domestic/international lounge when flying LATAM Y?

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't spend any extra dollars on Latam. Whilst their flight service is OK, the company is a complete mess at the moment, and any flight changes/cancellations will lead you to disaster.

You typically only get the QF code share on domestic flights booked as part of an international itinerary where your AUD-SCL flights are with QF, and even then only on select routes.

That said as LATAM are no longer part of One World they do not have to provide any OW benefits on flights booked directly with then. It is a real shame there is no One World partner in Latin America,

So in other words, it’s impossible to get LATAM lounge access in Y using Qantas Gold… ☹️

Unless booked with your AU flights through QF (of QF codes). I'm not sure of the rules of the codeshares (if they have to be within 24 hours of an international QF flight or just on the same ticket).

Definitely a massive degrade than when they were in oneworld.

QF codeshare on international flights within South America, not just within Chile, but I'm sure that's what you meant ;)

Also I think you can still book on the LA operated flights via AKL or MEL to connect with the QF short haul codeshares - doesn't have to be on QF metal.

When you are booking make sure you check the price on premium economy. The luggage fees there are steep on Y fares. The flights i booked were cheaper than Y with Luggage in a few cases.
It gets a blocked middle seat on the a320. I booked SCL to PUQ and the premium economy seating is actually business class on the 787. So check your planes.

I also found it cheaper to book on the Chili website using Googe translate browser after finding the fares on google flights.

Some of the airports have pay to enter lounges too.

QANTAS' website also states that QF Gold/Platinum members have access to the LATAM VIP lounges "When travelling on a Qantas or LATAM operated flight with a Qantas (QF) or LATAM (LA) flight number".
Here is the link:

I will be traveling to LIM via SCL with a LA flight number on 2/June. I will report back if there is any success.

That is a good find - and the earliest version of the page only goes back to 2021 which also included it - so suggests it is current.

Also on the LATAM equivalent page, it seems to suggest they get QF lounge access when flying QF with no caveat of being on LA codes. Enjoy the benefits of flying with Qantas Airlines | LATAM Pass.

I'm gonna guess the loss of oneworld traffic to LATAM from Australia is hurting them and they're trying to restore the bi-lat deal to be at similar levels. If this is true, I'm definitely back on to South America travel with LATAM.

You'll be relying on your QFF status for lounge access, not Class of Service on LA? Will be very interested in how you get on. The VIP lounge at SCL was very nice, at least pre-covid.

Yes, I will be using my QF WP to fly Y on LA ... but I realise I have another dilemma, my QF27 (J) and LA520 (Y) are booked separately, not sure if QF will transfer my luggage to LIM directly or not. In the worst case scenario, I need to use my APEC card to clear customs and pickup luggages then re-check-in. Chile requires a visa to enter the country, so my wife cannot go through customs with me if luggages need to be claimed...

I have a similar situation. Am booked SYD-SCL on QF. Have now decided to fly onto Montevideo on LA the day I land. I'm hoping my Travel Agent can link the bookings and my bags will get transferred, and I can stay airside.

I'll need a visa anyway, as I'm coming back (several times); haven't checked since they re-introduced visas, but I hope I can get multiple-entry.

The transit visa is free now though - the reciprocity fee is gone (but visas for 72h or more, or multiple entries, aren't free).

I am currently using my Qantas Platinum card in the LATAM VIP lounge. Nice lounge as expected.
Hi - just wondering if you were on a QF codeshare or LA flight number? One part of the Qantas site seems to say that you only get status related lounge entry to the VIP lounges if you're on a QF codeshare flight operated by LATAM, but another says it can be a LA or QF flight number.

Sorry for the late reply ... we were on a LA flight number and LA ticket.

@hj.au, No need to apologise at all! Thank you SO MUCH for the advice!! :)

Reason for asking is that I'm flying a few Qantas rewards flights (BOG-SCL; SCL-ASU; GRU-MEX) which have been booked via Qantas as reward seats and ticketed as LA flights. I'm Qantas Gold FF Status so hoping that the information in that part of the Qantas site was correct, and by the sounds of it, it is! As hoping to use those three lounges! thank you!
