Ouch!
Last, thought if it was marked with orange and yellow tags, it would be first off.
I believe it's called sarcasm.
Recent trip to the UK, First tagged bag was about 5th bag off at LHR, but return to SYD they kept First bags together and delivered at the end ;)

I don’t think it’s anything to do with status at all. AA regularly fly bags ahead from what I’ve been told from very experienced AFF members like @dfcatch

After my last AA flight I had the pleasure of dealing with baggage services at 3am when my bag didn't show up. There was another gentleman at the counter whose bag had apparently been sent on an earlier flight. When the earlier flight arrived, his bag was put on the luggage carousel and, apparently, subsequently picked up by a member of the public. (I'm not sure whether it was stolen or simply taken in error by another passenger, but AA could not locate it.)

Omg!! Mine was trouble free. In relation to the missing/ stolen bag thing I noticed at LGA the other day they have barriers and an entrance/ exit to the carousels with a Staff member checking your tag and luggage receipt match when you leave. I think this is a good thing.

That sounds completely reasonable. FWIW, this occurred at DFW.

I don't bother worrying about priority baggage anymore. In my experience it's not done properly and as long as my bags arrive on time then I'm happy.

For travel within the USA bags don't have to fly with the passenger. International flights to/from USA there must be a positive bag+passenger match (unless involuntary). The TSA believes their screening is sufficient for domestic purposes to allow airlines to move bags as they need to.
