Assuming you will be arriving on a OW airline, can't see why not. Don't think it matters how you pay for the flight - but have not read T&Cs so not 100% certain.

If you arrive on LA you get a cheaper rate than on other OW.

You should also compare price with a OW South America pass. The OW pass was cheaper for me on my trip in Feb 2010. It has set rates, where I think the LAN pass rates varies depending on availability.

I've just read the published T&C's for this product, and it states that you can use it as long as you arrive in or leave Sth America on a purchased international ticket on a ticket operated by LAN or a *O partner.

In reality, you could take a wide definition of purchased. I highly doubt it would matter how the ticket was paid for (cash, points, combo), just as long as it was on a flight operated by a *O partner.

There is a note that the price of this fare depends on which carrier you arrive/leave Sth. America on. If it's LA or their affiliates or IB, the T&C wording suggests the ticket is cheaper.

Having said that, this ticket locks you to flying LA and their affiliates. If you're going to places not covered by their network, then it would be worth considering the *O Visit South America pass which also gives you access to BA and AA within the continent.

I used the LAN Pass in conjunction with an award flight into Argentina on AA (MIA-EZE booked through QF) earlier this year.

When booking on line, it will ask you for the booking reference of the flight in/out.

Yeah i used within a 140k OW RTW award fare earlier this year, flew into EZE, did the Lan Pass (treated as a surface segment) then exited GIG... 4 flights for about $800 or so so not too bad...

And yeah cheaper if you fly down with Lan but still not a bad offer for the other OW airlines option... Checked the OW SA air pass general prices on the OW website, but within the mileage categories i think i just worked out that LAN's one was ok and so didn't bother trying to get the OW quoted with taxes etc...

You do obviously need to have your award flight booked and have a booking reference before you can then book your Lan Air Pass...
