Hi guys!

Need some feedback on the return leg of a trip I'm planning for April next year. Flying with family ( 2 adults, 2 kids) outbound leg from BNE to SIN with SQ, three hour layover in SIN then onward to KL. Planning a couple of days in KL then onto Langkawi. The return leg is where I'm having a bit of trouble. Essentially, I can fly back to KL (from Langkawi) and onwards to BNE (with MH) or to SIN and return to BNE (either with SQ or QF). Flying in J so will have lounge access. Having flown both SQ and QF in J, I'm familiar with their lounge and in flight offer but not MH. I haven't been to KL before having always used SIN as a hub when flying to Asia with the family in tow. I'm leaning towards using KL as the return flight times to BNE suit me better (this is not a deal breaker though) and I can fly MH all the way on a single PNR so the luggage gets interlined (can't seem to get this with SQ or QF departing LGK). Also, I'd rather not overnight in SIN either.

Any opinions on MH's J offer compared to QF and SQ? And what of KL compared to SIN as a transit stop? Thanks in advance

Going via KUL will give you better flight time options, KUL is a good stopover and if you have not been before, I would do it.

It really depends on what is your priority. Is it lounge access, or shortest time, or most comfortable, or daytime flights only?

Personally, I try to avoid overnight flights, so the MH day-time option KUL-BNE is attractive. But there is no early morning LGK-KUL connection, so will need to overnight at KUL to take that.

QF52 SIN-BNE is overnight, and a short flight so not a lot of sleeping time (between meals). But it will be Skybed MkII for your timing (is most says now). I cannot comment on SQ flight options.

The SQ options are angled lie flat, in fact I prefer them to Skybed Mk 2

Thanks everyone. The day time flight out of KUL does appeal a lot. I did the overnight QF flight from SIN to BNE earlier this year and even with the Skybed Mk2 and a few Baileys on ice, I couldn't sleep a wink (although everyone else seemed to have no problems though). Looks like I'll flip the itinerary and do Langkawi first followed by KL and fly back with MH.

I love the day flights between KUL and SYD, so I try to fly on those ones if I can. Have a good trip, YNWA!

Sounds like a good plan. I am doing the MH daytime KUL-BNE in J in a few months. Much prefer the daytime travel to an overnight, and I find the QF SIN-BNE overnight to be one of the worst due to the short duration, time for meal service, and now the "cafe" breakfast with a 5:15am arrival! Looks like I will doing that one (but in Y!!!, directly following a long-haul from Europe in Y) just before the J trip with MH.

How does the MH J class product compare to QF and SQ? Not that it makes a difference, just curious. Also, is SIN I only tend to use the lounge to grab a bite when travelling with the family as there is always heaps to keep the kids entertained in the airport itself. What's KLIA like in that respect? We really liked the new QF lounge is SIN and had dinner there before our flight which helped everyone get more sleep (except me of course). The kids like the lie flat seats as they don't slide down while sleeping but nothing a pillow can't fix in the angled ones (which I prefer anyway). Hope you have a good flight and score a row of 3 seats to stretch out in Y!

I'll tell you after that trip. I am use QF BNE-SIN outbound and MH KUL-BNE inbound. Won't be able to compare SQ though. Never flown them.
