I booked a J class SYD-AKL-SYD on LAN for the weekend. Both flights were cancelled. No announcements, no organisation, staff were overwelmed and tempers were flaring. No communication at or before the airport - they had my mobile number. Rang LAN and they couldnt speak english!!!

LAN seriously need to look at this aspect of their management.

I was re-booked on NZ104 in J and that was a good alternative, service was great and the seat fine for 3hrs 777-200ER.

returned on QF142 new 737-800 in new config, A380 seats Y+ and IFE system, crew were fantastic, not the usual QF offering.

Will ask for points credit from QF for ANZ sector.

always check outbound flights from Santiago before heading off to the port would be good advice.

cheers SPRUCE:oops:

yes, LAN have a reputation for being great when it goes smoothly (as it mostly does), but dont cope when it falls apart.

I agree they need to improve this aspect of their business.

But hey, NZ J is great, and new J on QF - how was it?

Doc,

Great for the job New seat was Y+ 380 type, 22" width but doesnt recline much. New IFE is 380 style and very flexible and large choice (not SIA or EK varieties though). Catering like sort haul J class QF international with good beverage selection.

Best part was the all female young crew, did a fantastic job and some were obviously NZ recruits

the new aircraft are 737-800 and the one i was on was only three weeks old.

All in all a good service in J class. I believe Y have their own seat back IFE as well. Good porduct for a competitve route.

Cheers

Thanks Spruce, i've been keen to hear first hand reports on what the 738s are like with the new fitout as it sounds like more are coming and we can expect them to be the backbone of QF short haul for a lot longer.

Sounds ideal for the TT sectors as they're 3-4 hours long, so Y+ type seating is probably ok for that leg.

Thanks serfty for the link, work filter lets me click on link and open, but not click through from ft homepage.:evil::!:

Doc,

BNE-PER would be pushing it I would say especially for the larger ones amoungst us and need more recline.

The crew were fantastic and said that they do miss the space of the 767 and they have a more confined area in which to prepare an 'internatiuonal' meal spread. They had all the good stuff they have up the front on the 747 - the grinders coffee, the T2, the champers, Neil Perry stuff etc etc.

Quite pleasant experience overall.

Cheers SPRUCE:)

Re: Ot: Qfnz 73h

Finally pics!!

Looks fantastic - J too, can't wait to try it out... Just need a AKL sale on QF now to check them out. The QF rep over on FT says all 737 flights from Syd - Akl are now the new generation 737's yay.

When these start hitting domestic routes now that is going to be great, knocks Virgins 'pay to watch commercials' screens out of the park.

I still think DJ have a great opportunity when they start replacing their 737's to match this and put proper AVOD in.... hopefully they read this.

I wouldn't count on them being in consistant domestic service anytime soon. They haven't ordered too many of these planes and QF isn't known for frequent aircraft upgrades so I dare say the current fleet will never see these new seats.

You don't think 31 is many?

Not really no when one considers the time frame for introduction. The current 738 fleet will be servicing the domestic runs for a long time to come.

I've just done a overnighter in AKL. LA801 was/is 3 hours late for departure and I had booked QF81 SYD-ADL with a four hour window (separate PNR). Needless to say I'm now on NZ101 and sitting in the Koru Lounge. It's was a real mess for me but they've been checking in everyone else as normal, so I guess I'm lucky but not looking forward to NZ A320 J or 'C' as they corrected me  Those LAN seats were wonderful. No <3 from the AKL QC either but we're all joking about it.

All a different experience at least and it's nice to be looked after by everyone when we so often hear about the horrors of LCC's, service still does exist if you want to pay.

The thing flying LAN Josh is that you could end up flying anyone. I got on an ANZ 777 and came home on the new QF 737-800 plying the Tasman.

Enjoy the trip home.

cheers

still getting SCs?
That would be the norm. :D

I have used this the LA800 and LA801 flights a number of times and have never had a delay or change out of SYD. Out of AKL we had one flight delayed about 3 hrs and we were notified by phone the night before and one 4 hr delay after we boarded in which case we stayed on board and QF had the connections organised on arrival in SYD.
