Hi there, Just after some info on Lan Chile J class.
Iam travelling J class SYD to AKL and return, to boost SC. Can you use QF J lounge at SYD and what J lounge do you use at AKL Airport?
Also is LA800 / LA801 have a good ontime record etc? anyone had and experiences to share please.
Thanks very much!

IKE - As LAN is One World, duck into the QF Lounge. Its quite basic but will do the job for a while.

If you are Gold on SA you could also try the ANZ lounge - depends on lounge dragon, but generally they are pretty good over there.

Enjoy the trip. Keep all your boarding passes untill you are fully credited with SC and points.

cheers

Someone has written a trip report late last year on this route:
http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...-trip-photos/lan-how-good-need-scs-19278.html

Insights into on time records, FlightStats rates the SYD-AKL leg pretty highly (FlightStats - (LA) Lan Airlines 800 Historical On-time Performance Rating), with 89% of the tracked 46 flights on time.

It however doesn't have enough data to give a good insight into the return AKL-SYD (only one flight in system).

I'm assuming you don't have Gold or Platinum status with Qantas, and I can't find anything to confirm if LAN makes available lounge access in SYD through a partner lounge - can someone else chime in?

Oneworld access by COS will allow QF lounge access.

I did this run last w/e. At both ends, you use the QF lounge. You can check lan.com to see if your partic. flight is on time / cancelled. I was lucky as both my flights were running as scheduled, but the Syd-Akl flight the day before mine was cancelled. I presume they put you on the QF flight if so.

For the 0550 OMG return from Akl, aim to arrive at about 420am (no earlier!!) - there is hardly anyone at checkin, even at the Y desk. Akl immigration only opened at 425am, and the QF club opens at 430am. I arrived at 0350 am (caught an earlier shuttle from the hotel I was staying), and spent a good 30- 40 minutes (which I could have spent in bed) wandering aimlessly around Akl which was pretty dead at that time!!

Both my flights, contrary to other reports here, posted 3 days later automatically:mrgreen:

I was on LA801 yesterday - left on-time at 0550 (which was a bit frustrating due to the fact AKL didn't open immigration until 0430, and boarding commenced at 0510) and arrived half an hour early at 0700. Wish I had kpc's advice earlier. ;)

Food wasn't great, but it wasn't really a meal heavy flight - just wanted to sleep, and the seats were excellent for that purpose. IFE okay too, with recent releases, though the TV selection was a bit old and bare (some 'classic' - read ancient - Simpsons and Friends). Mrs Djf received a OWE welcome from the purser too, which was nice. :)

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but this was the only relevant one I found in a quick search. By the looks of it the days of the $600 J fares are gone - I could only find one price for the next two months - $1100. I was thinking of doing a SC run to get to SG if I needed to and this was a neat way to do it for not a great outlay - it was 160 SCs IIRC?
Am I correct regarding the end of the cheap J fares or is it an availability issue?

The J fares (Syd-Akl-Syd; cheaper if you book Akl-Syd-Akl) were around $700 return for the last year or so. If you book on lan.com via the US or Europe website, the fares for a return flight this weekend come to around AUD$750 (after you convert back to AUD). For some reason, it is much more expensive if you book it on the Lan Australian site. Another alternative if you want to pay in AUD and avoid Fx fees is to book on expedia.com.au. It is pricing at AUD$750.26 for a return flight this weekend.

As kpc says, booking AKL-SYD-AKL you’ll get a much better price of about AUD$660. I was looking at this up until the other day when I decided SG wasn’t worth it to me. If you can cheaply get yourself to AKL, then you should be able to get yourself cheaply back too ;)

Thanks for the info. It's all rather strange isn't it? I'll see how I go - I need 125 SCs by the end of October. I should get a trip or two to Darwin in that time so may not need it. Still it's worth knowing about.

Get yourself to AKL cheaply, even flying LAN Y, fly back in J and book a return for after your membership year renews so you can get a head start on re-qualifying for the next year ;)
