As many would know, flights into Australia are subject to certain restrictions, and at SIN , these manifest themselves in requiring delivery of DF liquid purchases (>100ml) made at Changi to the gate. This also applies to flights to US and on US carriers. For all other flights duty free liquids are provided in tamper evident bags, with receipt inside bag, and these are screened at the gate, through normal security procedures (gate based at Changi).
One assumes that our (Aust.) regulators are not happy with just using tamper evident bags, and require additional degree of protection, to prevent threats to Australian sovereign territory. Fair enough, but I was thinking about this when departing SIN yesterday (noticing the time for pre-ordering DF for Australian destinations is now 90 mins), and oberved one oddity, or perhaps even flaw in the logic surrounding the whole risk management of this, as evident by this map showing particular flights not covered by these rules ....
Perhaps the difference lies in that Australian bound flights will be flying low over/near to their final destination, whilst the other ones remain at 35,000+ feet over Australian territory.
