Lack of demand forces Tiger to cut back Melbourne flights

Having been a victim of Tigers all too frequent, last minute cancellation of
flights problem recently I would not be that concerned if the cutbacks were 24 hours 7 days a week from now till doomsday.
DJ is not perfect but at least they rarely leave you stranded as happened to me with Tiger recently.

Well no business traveller in their right mind would consider flying them given recent cancellation issues.

And, most (not all, most) leisure travellers prefer weekend travel (incl mon/fri).

I'm +1 of : 7 days no flights, no worries.

I believe a lot of people now feel this way about Tiger. Until they learn the meaning of customer service this issue will continue to grow for them.

How long can/will they sustain the losses :?:

Hopefully until then end of March, when i have flights OOL-ADL-OOL

I think Tigers cutbacks to services have more to do with people getting sick of Tiger and their antics rather than lessening demand due to the global economic crisis....

I believe the question is how deep is the Singapore Governments pockets...;)
Probably not that deep if they had to get $3.9 million from the victorian government before they started operating out of Melbourne.
The other question is how long will SQ,as the other major shareholder be willing to let Tiger carry on losing money before it pulls the pin?
SQ has to remember that it has a good mainline brand and it wouldn't be nice to see it in trouble because of Tiger.

Who was the guy here who had inside contacts "at board level" who said they are most definately here for the long haul, aren't going anywhere blah.

There seems to be the smell of death about Tiger.

The trouble with Tiger is the lack of appeal to the biz market. Just too much of a gamble and a bother.

For the "Visiting Friends & Relatives" market, I'd suspect many of the population centres it flies too are too small (MKY, ROK, ASP) or are better served by the competition (HBA, LST) to maintain the services indefinitely without the support of tourism & biz.

As for the tourism market apart from places with mass appeal and where people go every year for their holidays (OOL, MCY), many travellers probably go there once and look for somewhere else to go next time .. would be nice to have occasional seasonal services from MEL to interesting but difficult to get to places such as Exmouth, Kununurra, AYQ (although i think there are restrictions on 320 landing there), PQQ, etc ... I guess every destinations adds significant costs though.
