Hello!
I want to try the KUL-SIN shuttle (travelling first class), with SQ and MH, and was wondering what is the maximum amount of time you can spend in the lounges:mrgreen:

I know that the silverkris lounge is open 24/7, but will they let me in at say 10am for a night flight?
Or is the issue checking in early?
Or is there no issue at all? (If so can you please give me your experiences)

Thank you

Plenty of people have stayed overnight in the SIN SKL F, including yours truly. ;) Plenty more have stayed for more than 1 night. ;)

You can obtain a boarding pass in SIN at T-48. If you're commencing your journey in KUL, simply walk to the SKL F when you arrive in SIN where you will be issued your BP for SIN-KUL, assuming it's 48 hrs or less prior to departure.

But these days I'm less inclined to spend that much time in the SKL F when they've removed the Dom, which was the ONLY good thing (besides the very nice lounge staff) about the ageing lounge!

Related question - does anyone (QF009?) know if cash can be used to upgrade from Y->F on this sector? Such flights fit into employer's short haul Y policy (no surprises there), but the extra few $ for the F fare are almost compensated by an increase in the earn rates for NZ airpoints (from $15 to $55 Aussie Airbucks) (ie what amounts to a good status run for NZ).

The last time I upgraded a KUL-SIN, it costs around A$80 (or MYR222). That was a standalone ticket booked in Y. I'm not sure about throughfares booked into some other bucket.

Hi

Im planning to book the same shuttle Kul- Sin in F.

Just wanted to know if SQ F provides a meal for the 1hr flight or not and whether dom is avail on the flight or the Kul Lounge for that matter

Your insights would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Just flew back last night from KUL-SIN. I managed to secure return upgrade to F before my first flight.

As for meals:
SIN-KUL 8:30am departure - breakfast of pastries, fruit & juice.
KUL-SIN 9:45pm departure - choice of smoked salmon with soba noodles or pita pocket filled with rare roast beef + salad. Small servings (really just entree*/appetiser sized, but the flying time was a mere 35 mins).

* the non-US definition of entree

How about First Lounge facilities? Food, beverages etc?

The SQ Flounge in KUL has recently been refurbished and now looks much nicer than before. Regrettably the catering is still the same, ie no hot food. So the MH Flounge would still be my choice.

Pics of the 'new' SQ KUL Flounge:

SQTalk - View Single Post - [KUL] SQ - Silver Kris Lounge (only for PPS, F pax or pax connecting to SQ C at SIN)

BTW, I'm flying on a BA TLSS fare to KUL. I've got SQ SIN-KUL and MH KUL-SIN on the fare. Can anyone tell me if I'd be able to upgrade both flights to F if they're not standalone fares? In hindsight I should've just bought a SIN return, then buy SIN-KUL-SIN as separate tickets, ah hindsight... As is, they aren't in the Y bucket either, SQ is K and MH is L. I'm rather pessimistic :(, but maybe someone can prove me wrong. :) If I can't upgrade I'd still be able to access SATS in SIN using my *G status, but I'd be stuck in KUL loungeless. :(

In the KUL lounge the only hot food available was curry puffs and the like, nothing fancy like the food available in SIN FCL. I didn't have a lot of time there - just enough to synchronise my emails. Also as it was only my second departure from KLIA (last there in 2001), I spent more time exploring the airport, than in the lounge. However the lounge was on a par with the MEL SKL (or TSV QP!), for what that's worth.

Prior to departure from SIN (to KUL), I used this probably as my last opportunity to turn right at the top of the stairs to visit the First Class Lounge, as with the new PPS club rules I won't be getting into the FCL lounge there any more unless travelling in F (unlikely). As usual good array of breakfast food available, omelettes etc cooked on demand. However QF FCL in MEL (and I assume SYD) is now superior, so it's all relative.

{as an aside on immediately following KUL-SIN I was transferring to MEL and had the chance to use the Silver Kris Lounge at SIN. With the new PPS club rules it was very busy, reminded me of domestic QP's in SYD/MEL/BNE most afternoons - noisy with limited seating - but I still much better than no lounge access at all!}

Hi

Silly question

If I book F for Sin - Kul SKL lounge access in SIN is available correct?

Yes you will be eligible for the F porter service, F check in lounge, and the SKL F.

Note to self - book SIN-KUL-SIN separately in future if I want to go F.

I tried to get the SIN-KUL-SIN segments of my BA fare upgraded. Was told that it's impossible to pay to upgrade the SIN-KUL-SIN segments unless they're booked in Y class (which usually means as standalone fares), or as part of SQ throughfares.

Sitting in the SATS lounge now. And contemplating on how to survive KUL without lounge access since KUL-SIN is on MH...

Well on my last MH Y trip on that route I ate at Burger King and used up the last of my Ringgit at Starbucks before boarding. Apart from spending my own money for the food/coffee, it was comparable to the CX lounge, but not as good as the MH FLounge.

You can sit and have a drink at the Forrestier Bar or even the Tropical Lounge with both not far from the aerotrain. They are great spots to observe the masses.

KLIA and click on the link for satellite passenger building.

Thanks, JohnK and NM. :)

My flight ended up departing from the main terminal building (nasty little 734) so it'd have been a waste if I'd upgraded to F anyway as the Flounge is in satellite IIRC. I got to the airport later than I normally would, spent some time slurping noodles at the Chinese restaurant next to Maccas, and walked to the departure gate just in time for boarding.

But the awesome thing was a mate of mine (from another forum) was captaining my MH flight. :D

Ahh, yes. Must have been the 5:30pm (or thereabout) flight.

I have taken that flight and still used the FLounge. The train is pretty quick back to the main building, so still an option if you arrive at least 45 mins before boarding.

It was the 1540 departure. All the flights were listed as 734 for that day, and I thought they'd put on a few 330s.

Yes, perspective hey. :)
I will still go F on the route when I can though - not for the onboard experience, it's just a cheap way to enjoy both Flounges. Well, not much going for the SIN SKL F these days - but hopefully they'd have nice new toys when the new T3 opens (and bring back dom p!). :)

Another Question:

I think i have heard somewhere that you can use you MH ticket to get into the SKL and vv, is this true?

thanks
