Hey guys,

I have some points expiring soon, not enough for a flight just yet so was contemplating using them via other means like shopping or to another membership. I know in the past before covid, people would recommend transferring it to Velocity but that got stopped during covid and i read a while back they were looking to enable that feature again.

Is it back now? Are we able to transfer it and also does it have to be to my own velocity account or can it be to a family member's account? Or is it possible to send it to another family member's krisflyer account ( i believe this was not possible).

Been back a while now . Has to be your own account . Can transfer to velocity - then to family members account - then to their krisflyer account .

..and in doing so 5,000 KF miles would become 2081 KF miles! I know, they're expiring anyway, so better than nothing.

If I am transferring from a credit card to a Krisflyer, then i presume the names dont need to match up (name of credit card holder to name of Krisflyer Account)?

So instead of transferring the krisflyer points out of the account, i presume people feel i am better of transferring more points into the krisflyer account and booking a flight? To confirm, I can book anyone a flight through points on a krisflyer account right, it doesnt have to match up with the account holder?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

They absolutely need to match up. SQ proactively "audit" accounts where names of the credit card holder and Krisflyer account holder do not match up and there can be consequences. Plenty of reports of this on Flyertalk.

Damn, I didnt think that would matter, ok so i guess my only recourse at the moment to use up those points is to purchase something with them or transfer them to velocity.

Have people calculated the value of Krisflyer being transferred to Velocity and then back to Krisflyer as opposed to using it for shopping where 125 miles is $1 (doesnt sound great)

What's the question? As I mentioned upthread...that's how you turn 5000 KF miles into 2081 KF miles.

Sorry, I mean like a Dollar value, As in you know how some sites like point hacks has comparisons on how you use a frequent flyer mile (first, business, economy, transfer to other program, shopping, accommodation etc). I am trying to figure out the value i get once i do the transfers there and back again as opposed to just spending it on shopping. I have never used Krisshop before. but in general I get the feeling shopping will always be the worst even after the % loss in doing the transfers to velocity and back.

You need to look long and hard at how many KF miles you have, how many you expect to earn in the future, and what you would hope to redeem on.
  • If you are way short of a flight and you don't have any realistic way to earn enough for a flight in the future, then you would do better to spend on shopping or transfer to Velocity and expect to use them on VA redemptions.
  • If you expect to have enough KF points within 6 months to get the redemption of your choice then pay to extend the miles.
  • If you are a bit short for a redemption, then you could buy the missing miles (for a pretty steep price).
  • If you are saving for a First Class return to Europe but only have enough for a one way flight to Singapore then maybe lower your target to something attainable.
I would be very surprised if the best option for you was to lose 60% f your points by transferring to VA and back to KF.

I have just organised Mrsdrron's points expiring tomorrow to be transferred to velocity.
Only 1 problem. I then went to set up a family pooling so I would get the points. No more than 5 minutes after pushing submit on the trandfer to Velocity and whilst in her Velocity account I saw her points total change from 0 to the transferred number.
Now I have to do a separate transfer of those points to me.
Really impressive SQ!

Ran into a similar problem the other day, any family pooling changes take effect from midnight on the day you submit, so any points received on that day won't be transferred even if you have already changed the family pooling settings
