Krisflyer redemption, altitude insurance coverage?

Hi,I've got a question, after reading the PDS, my understanding of the wording isn't quite clear. I'm trying to figure out whether or not we would be covered by the westpac gold card insurance if we were to redeem tickets from our Krisflyer points and pay for the taxes/charges with our Altitude gold card. I'm sure someone has been in the same situation?Cheers

Read your PDS for the product. Is there mention on Frequent Flyer or points in the text?

You'd be best off clarifying the issue with Zurich, but I think if the points that you are redeeming were earned through the Altitude card, and converted to KF miles then there is coverage.

“use of the cardholder’s eligible credit card account” means that
the total value (i.e. including but not limited to money and/or
reward type points and/or staff discounts) of the return overseas
travel ticket (but not taxes, airport or travel agent charges) was
obtained prior to the commencement date of your journey by one
or a combination of the following methods:
n was paid for being charged to a cardholder’s eligible credit
card account; and/or
n the cardholder is a current Westpac Altitude Gold cardholder
and:
– a member of Westpac’s “Altitude” Rewards Program and
has redeemed their Westpac “Altitude” points earned on
the cardholder’s eligible credit card account, in exchange for
your return overseas travel ticket; or
– a member of Westpac’s “Altitude Qantas” Rewards
Program and of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and has
redeemed their Qantas Frequent Flyer points earned on the
cardholder’s eligible credit card account, in exchange for
your return overseas travel ticket; and/or
n the cardholder is a current Westpac Altitude Gold cardholder
and:

– a member of the Westpac “Altitude” Rewards Program
and has converted their “Altitude” points, earned on the
cardholder’s eligible credit card account to points in a
frequent flyer program of an airline that is participating in
“Altitude” and the cardholder has redeemed those frequent
flyer points to obtain your return overseas travel ticket;
– a member of Westpac’s “Altitude Qantas” Rewards Program
and has redeemed the Qantas Frequent Flyer points earned
on the cardholder’s eligible credit card account to obtain

Overseas travel insurance policy
Overseas travel insurance is a benefit available to currentWestpac cardholders who by use of the cardholder’s eligible creditcard account paid for in full the cost of their return overseastravel tickets prior to leaving Australia. It is also available to thecardholder’s spouse and the cardholder’s dependent children,who travel with the cardholder for the entire journey, providedtheir return overseas travel tickets were paid for in full by use ofthe cardholder’s eligible credit card account.

Ive highlighted the text in which I'm a little confused on. If the full cost issued by kris flyer for example, is just the amount in tax which is say, $1000 then would that be the full cost? If I had used my reward points from the credit card to redeem kris flyer miles, wouldn't that portion be considered to be also paid by the credit card?

IMHO, if points or points redemption is not mentioned then there's no cover for award flights.

How long are you away for? maybe check out one of the Oz based online insurance brokers like Travel Insurance from $21: Travel Insurance Direct Australia - you may be surprised how relatively inexpensive they can be (again, check out their PDS's before buying).
